Leon Spinks vs Chris Byrd. What If?

Post by KOJOE90 »

What would have been the outcome if a well trained and motivated Leon Spinks fought a peak Chris Byrd?

Leon at his best was a high pressure, aggresive fighter with great heart and workrate. He would come bobbing and weaving and throwing large amounts of punches at Byrds head, body, arms and anything else he could reach. They are both of a simular size, but Bryd may be quicker but I feel Leon is stronger and hits harder.

Byrd is a nightmare to fight with his slippery defensive skills but could he avoid all of Leons shots?

I don't think he could. IF Spinks had trained and prepared right I think he would have too much pressure and heat for Byrds. He would force Byrd onto the ropes and roughly hit him to body and head. Bryd would have his moments exploiting Leons lack of defence but would lack the power to keep Leon at bay all night.

I think Spinks at his best would be far too busy and strong for Byrd... he'd go straight through Byrd and overwhelm him for a late stoppage or points win. :box:

Spinks would dominate him and then go and party the rest of his teeth out and lose his next 20 fights.

I still can't believe how far Neon Leon slumped and some of the guys he lost to. John Carlo, KP Porter etc :o :o

Yeah at Leon's best but he had such a short period of time that he was at his true "prime" The winning strategy for Byrd is just to avoid Leon for that 18 month prime period and fight him any other time and take the win.

However for the sake of arguement prive vs prime Id take Leon at even odds.

I have a video where Byrd's trainer smacks him in the head like 10 times in a row with a towel, while Byrd is trying to slip with his "defensive skills".

Byrd moves alot, has good speed. His coordination and reflexes are unimpressive.

Is Leon coked up, or is this the Leon Spinks that fought Ali the first time?

Like I have said in my initial post this is Leon at his best, well trained and motivated etc.

So yes it's Leon from the first Ali fight.
