Canny scrap Rees - Mathews.

Re: Tonight's RBR
Matthews isn't jabbing enough & isn't putting enough mustard on the jab, has his head too far up & isn't liking the bodyshots.
Rees looks like stopping him eventually for my money, DM's work is getting too much play from Rawling.
Just my opinion. Good fight though.

Accidental head clash, wasn't it? Don't see anything controversial in that.
Boring, yes. Controversial no.

Was just getting going there. It was accidental

Unsatisfactory ending Derry deserves a rematch without a doubt.

Was he really unable to continue? Can't even remember the last time a fight got stopped because of a nose.Datsue wrote:Accidental head clash, wasn't it? Don't see anything controversial in that.

Re: Tonight's RBR
It was definitely broken and can be very hard to stop the bleeding plus it would affect his breathing.keithmoonhangover wrote:Was he really unable to continue? Well, yes, I've seen fighters continue with worse, but I hardly think the word "scandal" is in any way appropriate, do you?
That seems a touch hyperbolic, to me.
I mean, if Matthews had continued, & had his nose smashed up so badly he'd been stopped in six, wouldn't that be more scandalous (because the result would've been determined by an unfair advantage caused by an accidental foul)?

"That seems a touch hyperbolic" Calm down mate, you sound like Mr Spock. I thought it should have gone on after a time out. If I want to use the word scandal, I shall.Datsue wrote:keithmoonhangover wrote:Was he really unable to continue? I didn't think it was boring. It was a scappy but they were both trying to work on the inside.Datsue wrote:Accidental head clash, wasn't it? Don't see anything controversial in that.

Re: Tonight's RBR
Matthews nose was pissing blood, that was a bad one and I think justified in quitting tbh.

Don't you think they should have had a five minute break and then try and continue.TheCobra wrote:Matthews nose was pissing blood, that was a bad one and I think justified in quitting tbh.

The result. A technical draw is a boring result. I already said the fight was good.

What happens if his nose received further damage from punches and Derry had to be stopped? If the fight continued, it would be giving Rees an unfair advantage as it was caused by a headbutt.keithmoonhangover wrote:Don't you think they should have had a five minute break and then try and continue.TheCobra wrote:Matthews nose was pissing blood, that was a bad one and I think justified in quitting tbh.

What I'm saying is that they could have had a five minute break and then offered Matthews the chance to continue.Deno1986 wrote:What happens if his nose received further damage from punches and Derry had to be stopped? Re: Tonight's RBR
Fair enough. I couldn't see any corner letting their boxer go back into a fight in the fourth round with a broken nose that was caused by a headclash. In my opinion it was the right call to stop it there and then.keithmoonhangover wrote:What I'm saying is that they could have had a five minute break and then offered Matthews the chance to continue.Deno1986 wrote:What happens if his nose received further damage from punches and Derry had to be stopped? With a big title on the line, I might have been tempted to go on.Deno1986 wrote:Fair enough. The Cunningham fight has ended badly as well. What a crap night of boxing.

Keith, have a look at what's happening in Germany.
That approaches a scandal (& I'm not just talking about the judging in the Campillo fight). Although "farce" might be a more appropriate term.

Apologies, cross-posted.
Re: Tonight's RBR
A broken nose is a nightmare though - the lack of proper breathing is the main problem but your eyes will start to swell up aswell. Derry should get a rematch out of this so the title is still there.keithmoonhangover wrote:With a big title on the line, I might have been tempted to go on.Deno1986 wrote:Fair enough.
