well seeing as this is the british and irish section of boxrec , ill repeat mma has no regulation , say what you want about the BBBoC , but most countries would love to have the same level of governance

the people who wont want mma to be governed properly are probably all on roids and/or growth , they dont want to be drug tested , anyone truly passionate about a sport would in my view want it o be more official and more organised , surely .

Look at how Frank Maloney "promotes" his flights... he comes on screen, moans about why he couldn't get the fight he really wanted, is on the defensive from minute 1 and generally gives you the impression that its not going to be much fun at all.

Yes they have had a disappointing couple of years, however in 2010 over 15 shows they had 9,305,000 buys for a total of $465 million in PPV revenue. (This is most any company has ever done in the history of the universe, btw) 2011 is well down from that, but they have had bad luck with injuries.

Unless you're the accountant for the UFC then i can guarantee you those PPV figures and money you just mentioned are pure fantasy and are massively inflated that ufc fans regurgitate to make themselves feel better. Infact those figures that are posted on mma sites are not backed by one shred of actual evidence.

UFC is packaged for idiots, it's the Mcdonalds of combat sports for lazy people who want a quick meal without thinking too much.

As for boxing, if you don't know what the good fights are you're not much of boxing fan. I'll give you a clue there's 3 potentially cracking fights later tonight plus one featuring one of the most least known but most exciting boxers we currently have in Roman Gonzalez.

Sergio Martinez vs Darren Barker - will be alot closer and more competitive then people think.
Brian Vera vs Andy Lee - first fight was a brawl so expect more of same.
Toshiaki Nishioka VS Rafael Marquez - Has a good chance at being a FOTY candidate.
Roman Gonzalez vs Omar Soto - Gonzalez is a gem of a fighter and worth checking out

OK, so just to recap my opening statement "I have been making an effort recently to get back into boxing." as others here may well confirm i have been discussing boxing (and other things, actually mainly other things, now that i think about it) on these forums for the last 10 years or so. Sadly i slipped out of it and would like to rekindle my interest.

No i am not aware of 3 of those fights, and the reason i am not aware of them is that they have not, maybe, been promoted all that well.

Trust me go to small town shows and your will see the true boxing scene where nobody gives a dam about 0 or being on sky but blood sweat and tears the lot even when i see a top journey man who as 60 odd loses giving hes all.

I would say 65/75% of the guys in UFC are on the gear, that's what i was told by someone who was in K1 at the time, but all those guys train together. He was gassed to the gills btw.

The only critism on boxing at the moment is the titles need to be cleaned up - the titles don't mean crap which makes the sport look like a joke.

I think 2011-12 could be the best for british boxing with most boxing televised between 3 or 4 different channels and interest increasing The more you watch the best / most exciting fighters in the world the more you think boxing is doing well. I don't what you follow but yesterday fight at the York Hall was the fight of the year domestically, Also Jamie Mcdonnels earlier defence in september was a cracker.
