Re: 2011 national pal toledo ohio thread

Yes, I'm in Toledo. Unless I find out that someone else is posting the official results (Nicki is here from the USAB office), I'll try to keep y'all updated.
Since I'm judging this week, I will not post my opinions on any of the boxers or their bouts - so please don't ask.
Re: 2011 national pal toledo ohio thread
As I suspected, bout sheets and results will be posted on USA Boxing's web site = http://www.usaboxing.org. For those of you following the women's competition (PAL is the last qualifier to make the Olympic Trials), Carrie Barry, 132 Lbs., was doing very well in her bout with Vanessa Jackson but popped her knee, causing her to lose by RSC.

Was there a Female boxer at 132 Mel who supposedly had fallen into a coma during her bout? Wondering if she was ok?!boxmel wrote:As I suspected, bout sheets and results will be posted on USA Boxing's web site = http://www.usaboxing.org. Re: 2011 national pal toledo ohio thread
Hey Mel USA boxing website is not doing the job, no info since yesterdays results no bout sheets for today
Re: 2011 national pal toledo ohio thread
USA Boxing is doing a terrible job on the bout sheets/results of this tournament!
Re: 2011 national pal toledo ohio thread
i know wth!
Re: 2011 national pal toledo ohio thread
USA Boxing is providing the results. They just add to the prior results page. Unfortunately, the date linking to the page still says "2011 PAL Brackets and Bout Sheets, Rob Howe - Oct 03, 2011" which makes people think it hasn't changed since October 3rd. It has. Just go to that page and then click on "National PAL Results".
Now it is true that they have not posted the new bout sheets since Tuesday.

Re: 2011 national pal toledo ohio thread
Ishika Lay from Florida was competing on Tuesday night. She looked fine, was taking some punches but nothing to warrant an 8 count. She was backing up to the ropes, retreating from her opponent, and her legs just gave way and she collapsed to the canvas. She was unresponsive for a long time and was transported to the hospital, with oxygen going, once they got her as stable as possible. The word last night is that she is still in critical condition and in a coma. It appears that there were prior medical problems and events that were not known that could have contributed to her current condition. A heartfelt prayer was said for Ishika before the bouts started last night and we are all hoping for the best. Was there a Female boxer at 132 Mel who supposedly had fallen into a coma during her bout? Wondering if she was ok?!

I will pray for Ishika and hope all other coaches, officials, boxers and fans do the same.

Re: 2011 national pal toledo ohio thread
Two people from Ohio win at 132 and 141. Sounds a little suspect... I heard the judging was terribly biased
Re: 2011 national pal toledo ohio thread
a little but really just the norm like in texas the referees were bad though alotta disqualifications worst judging was of gary antonio russel fight he really lost getting outworked the whole crowd erupted when he was announced winner

Re: 2011 national pal toledo ohio thread
Hearing and seeing are two different things. And please remember that the biggest percentage of the boxers were from Ohio so it would make sense that there were several Ohio champions who won legitimately. Two people from Ohio win at 132 and 141. Sounds a little suspect... I heard the judging was terribly biased
Regarding the judging: there was a shortage this year, which makes scheduling difficult. Judges did not work their own LBC or region, with the exception of one or two who had to judge someone in their region due to the shortage during the week - in that case, only one was used with the other four judges coming from other regions. This was not the case in the championships. There were 6 Ohio boxers (male and female) in the open championships. One bout was Ohio vs. Ohio. Ohio had 4 wins (1 by RSC) and 2 losses.
Regarding disqualifications - if boxers didn't foul, they wouldn't get disqualified. And there were no DQs in the championships. Regarding the Gary Russell bout - he has a very large lead in the first round and won by only one point.
Re: 2011 national pal toledo ohio thread
Mel did you get a chance to see Verbain Curry 152 Bronze from Florida, if so what did you think? would like to hear others opinion also, only his second national competition
Re: 2011 national pal toledo ohio thread
Sorry, I don't recognize the name. We had three rings until up to and including the Saturday noon session. I didn't keep my ring assignments so I can't look and see if he was on Ring 1. :( If he wasn't, I didn't see him box. Getting to the semifinals in his second national tournament is a good accomplishment.Mel did you get a chance to see Verbain Curry 152 Bronze from Florida, if so what did you think? would like to hear others opinion also, only his second national competition
Re: 2011 national pal toledo ohio thread
OK Thanks Mel, anyone else see Verbain Curry a 152
Re: 2011 national pal toledo ohio thread
I helped Derick with Verbain all week. He is still waiting just a little too much to win a national championship. He should trust the corner instruction a little more, and become aggressive against top guys. He did well (in spite of waiting a lot) until he ran into Sammy Vasquez, who is coming off of a 4th place finish at the Olympic trials, Verbain just didn't push the action until the 3rd round.
While I agree with Mel about a lot of Ohio boxers in the finals, I still beleive there were some bad decisions, especially the 132 final. Bell is a good kid, but there is not enough alcohol in the state of Ohio, to convince me he won that large over Toka, sorry I just don't know what the judges were watching. Sorry just my opinion. I think they got the Russell bout correct, there was some home cooking at 132.![[icon_witsend.gif] :witzend:](./images/smilies/icon_witsend.gif)

Re: 2011 national pal toledo ohio thread
Yes Verbain is naturally a counter puncher, he does need to be more aggressive
Re: 2011 national pal toledo ohio thread
You are, of course, entitled to your one-point-of-view spectator opinion....... 8) Clary lost by 5 points; none of the judges were from his LBC or region and, frankly, I thought he waited just a bit too much (watching, not judging).I still beleive there were some bad decisions, especially the 132 final.
