Josh, I agree in part with you, but boxing is about timing your chances properly.

Coming off the back of a knockout loss to a domestic puncher, and then travelling to America to fight the WBA champion, division and Ring #1 ... and a widely regarded bad ass is not going to do John's career any good whatsoever long term.

He's lost to a 7/10 fighter and is now going straight in with a 9/10 fighter.

There is no way Murray is going to change his style in such a short space of time. And if he gets destroyed, it could have long-lasting repercussions on him for the remainder of his career.

Rios is a beast. He is looking for Maidana next and has already blasted-out Urbano Antillon in 3 rounds, and knocked out Acosta too.

Antillon had a war with Soto - and yet was wiped out by Rios, who is on fire right now.

This wont be a gallant Macklin v Sturm fight, it's a mismatch I'm sad to say.

And I say that as a fan of John's. I've been ringside or in the crowd for well over half his career. From London to Manchester.
He got stopped, fairly badly and will need a fight to build up his confidence. A rematch with Mitchell I could kind of understand but moving up a significant level against a massive guy at the weight in America just seems like a bad idea.

Lets not forget the problems surrounding Murray, changing trainer, issues with the booze add to that the way he lost, I'd say give him a few fights to get back into the swing of things.
Amir Khan?? Knocked out worse than Murray, to a poor guy, then beat Barerra then onto a world title.

I dont think Murray will win this fight but he doesn't deserve the slating he is getting
Chances like this do not come round all too often. Murray waited for so long to get a shot, there is no way he is going to turn down the chance now, even if straight off the back of the Mitchell defeat.

John has had a serious kick up the @ss against Mitchell and this is his chance to show if he belongs at this level. Very tough ask and he really needs to put the effort in, but people on here are being really harsh.

Lets get behind the lad, you all liked him before the last fight so whats changed?

Come on Murray :bag: :bag:

Think you are missing the point mate. Not saying John can't come back and become a world titlist (although that may be a stretch), its just he needs to rebuild after a tough loss. Khan fought Fagan as a comeback from Prescott before Barrera and then faced Kotelnik. Those are the two sort of fights Murray needs before Rios.

Would you turn down a big pay day and a world title shot?

People said that about Mitchell before he fought Murray. Said it was too early and he should have had 1 or 2 fights.

Murray doesn't become a bad fighter after one defeat. Its threads like this that helps people believe keeping the '0' is important.

Plenty of fighters have bounced back from defeat, lets not fully rule out Murray.
I get your point, but this isn't one of those fights. Even before his loss, I would have said Rios would beat him up, and I'm sure many feel the same way. Rios and Murray are similar fighters, but one is World class and the other is domestic (potentially European) class.

Can't we all just be happy for Murray. He has a shot and has chosen to take it. We should stop being negative and give the guy a chance and get behind him. He is a Brit fighter going away to fight for a world title, lets just give him some support.

Come on lads, stop it with the downers.

This is a big ask for John and interesting he got a title shot off the back of a KO loss?

Great fight for fans, bad fight for Murray.
I'll be surprised if he even makes it past six rounds with Rios (grated he comes to fight, which Murray always does).

Why would Murray's management even want this fight for him now?
Offer must be pretty good.

Rios is never in a bad fight, Murray is never in bad fight, my oh my this will be a stunner.

I think Rios is amazing, got up late to watch all of his fights since he was on Pacman v Margarito bill and been mighty impressed with him.

People shouldnt rule out Murray though, Mitchell and Khan have showed you can rebound from a loss, and if he treats this fight properly (doesnt go out on the lash), which he should now that he's moved camps, he could very well put Rios down, honestly cant see him winning though as someone mentioned, Rios is a much better version of Murray.

Gutted for Kev though, I guess it's about that business which The Sun made a big deal of a few months back.

No they wouldn't. Rios would be big favourite with or without the Mitchell fight.

I can see this matchup going the same way as Rios/Antillon. Antillon was another straight ahead guy, without the power to go toe to toe with Rios.

Over on current scene, somebody mentions Kev was offered the fight but had to turn it down for legal reason's, interesting. Maybe he cant get a visa?

Funny isn't it, as when Murray/Mitchell was made, they were probably told that the winner gets a world title shot.

So Kev must be wondering why the hell the loser gets a shot ( mind you, at least he's already had a chance ).

Bad timing for John - if it'd come one fight ago, his confidence would have been sky high. Not now though....but he's got to look at it like a huge 2nd chance - work like hell over the next few months on head movement and defence.

Who's training him now ? Jimmy Tibbs would be a good call - experienced head to go over to NY with him.

Murray is training with Mike Marsden in Leeds now, he's left Gallagher so he can have Kerry Kayes on board doing the diet.

Really? I can remember Autobarn being a huge Murray cheerleader, but I genuinely don't recall many saying that at all.

Well Autobarn likes pressure fighters and is a bit biased towards them and their levels.

But I think collectively there would be a much larger proportion of people picking Murray to wear Rios down.

Not me. Rios is up there with the very besty of them at 135lbs. He'll beat Murray & Mitchell, convincingly. John needs to be careful - he had a tough, tough night against Mitchell. Rios will be a nightmare night for him, in my view.

Strikes me as a daft fight for Murray, but no dafter than I thought Mitchell was taking on Murray after Katsidis and we all know what happened there. Sometimes logic goes out of the window.

Murray will get blasted out. Sadly he is going to be one of those stories where we see a seriously talented boxer not fulfil his potential.

It seems or it is rumoured Murray likes to do a lot of training in the evenings, at the night clubs.

if mitchell and i belive molina jkr couldn't r wouldn't take the fight, then john murray is around this level - of contenders and you can#'t blame him for accepting the fight.

IF he wins, then he puts the mitchell defeatb well behind him.

murray has the right style for american television. it's not like he's going to be frustrated by a guy with movement. at least he'll be able to get his best shots off, though vs an opponent who is really putting guys away at the moment.
