Decent up and coming fighter, but from what I've seen not a 'can't miss' world title prospect. But with Hearn behind him at least he seems to have some direction and should be fighting more often now. Still, he has a lot to prove and I think any talk of world title shots is jumping the gun. On the right track but needs to be fed more testing opposition from now on.

Mosley would be my choice. A MASSIVE name, who's on the way down. A win puts Kell on the world stage and he could break America.manno wrote:Ian 'Mr' McNeilly wrote:I just don't see the point in that fight at all. Yep laughably overhyped by a desperate Adam Smith - since he "took charge" he's seeing all the talent heading over to other boxing channels.
So hyping up Brook like the 2nd coming of Sugar Ray, as Kel beats up yet another hapless palooka. Trumpeting Kel as stopping a man NEVER STOPPED BEFORE (!!!) even though it was a blatant early stopage, as the ref became as bored as the rest of us, in waiting for to Brook to put this guy out of his misery.
Even Glen McCrory was embaressed I think, as he was hinting that maybe Kel should be closing this show, before Adam interupts with WHAT A FIGHTER KEL BROOK IS - WHAT WILL ANDRE BERTO THINK WATCHING THIS??!! ( Adam, calm down, he's not watching )

Mr Pedigree - with no pedigree, just a bowl of chum.
No problem with debating issues but Jesus, you are so thick there's no point.
Maybe there is a little OTT hyping going on, but surely we should be getting behind one of our brightest hopes for success on the World front.
Kel is on absolutely the right road.
Anyone who suggests Kel would have been better sticking with his previous Promotor is deluded.
What did he do for him ?
How mant times did he fight in his home City ?
Did he ever headline a show for him ?
No, no, no.

What annoys me about Adam Smith's commentary, is that he never actually talks about the action happening between the ropes!

Re: Is Kell Brook a victim of hype ??
But from a building Kell in the states point of view, Malignaggi makes a lot of sense. Since Khan, he's had a couple of respectable wins up at Welter and is well known and seemingly popular with the US networks. As a New Yorker, he'll be an attractive option for an undercard at Atlantic City where the headliner (Andre Ward) can't draw flies to steaming heaps of dung. He's probably rated by a number of the governing bodies and the fight could easily be made for an interim or eliminator for a world title.Ian 'Mr' McNeilly wrote:I just don't see the point in that fight at all. Re: Is Kell Brook a victim of hype ??
Brook is another British fighter who is being hyped up before he's even fought someone who's as ambitious as he is with the skills to match. He's beating the likes of an ancient Lovemore N'dou and the Pole last night and people are going on about Berto and Ortiz. ![[icon_witsend.gif] :witzend:](./images/smilies/icon_witsend.gif)
Re: Is Kell Brook a victim of hype ??
I used to find the Brook hypetrain unbearable, because he was just flattening a load of fighters that have previously been stopped several times, and had about 3 stoppage wins between them.
It was kinda embarrassing when people were calling him world class after beating Kotey, who'd probably have lost to Ronnie Heffron inside three rounds too.
The N'Dou fight was a good one to take, he wasn't just going to fall over and despite being past it was easily superior to anything Kell had been in with so far, and last night was a good step in the right direction too. I wouldn't be against a Paulie fight, but I think with him having zero power and his legs going there are probably better options out there.
The move to Matchroom has definitely given his career some much needed impetus, under Allegedly he was on DeGale undercards fighting bums and waiting for Pacquiao to vacate or be stripped. As if any alphabet is going to strip Pacquiao

There's enough criticism going on about hype, without you throwing a petrol bomb on it.

The hypes right,he'll be big.
Re: Is Kell Brook a victim of hype ??
I think Brook can beat both Berto and Ortiz, who are merely overhyped ''decent'' fighters themselves.
Ortiz just doesn't want to be a fighter IMO, if Brook had his tactics right he could stop Victoria.

Brook knocks him out for me, if Eddie lets De Bella have a defence out there as well afterwards, he may get the fight, they must know from
Berto's last performance he is an accident waiting to happen, if they don't match him carefully he will lose before Brook gets to him.

Re: Is Kell Brook a victim of hype ??
Kell Brook is an excellent fighter, who eventually prove he is world class. He is not there yet, and some hard fights need to be matched for him to prove the case. Sadly I think knock over jobs will be arranged and the hype machine will be in full operation without Kell proving his worth.
I honestly think Kell has got it, but, he naturally has to prove it. People on here should not be so harsh.

Re: Is Kell Brook a victim of hype ??
I'm just not convinced by Kell yet and don't see this future world champion that alot of other people do unless of cause you're talking about some dubious paper title held by Viacheslav Senchenko.
It's fine looking good against Boxers like Rafal Jackiewicz, Lovemore Ndou, Michael Jennings and Krzysztof Bienias but these guys aren't Top 20 Welterweights and there is a world of difference between them and the current Top 10 so untill Kell actually gets in the ring with another young hungry contender then he's just all Hype for me and someone who has been matched very well against a bunch of Euro/world soft touches.
Get him in against a young contender like Mike, Jones, Brad Solomon and Selcuk Aydin or even a live underdog like Sebastian Andres Lujan, Jan Zaveck, Randall Bailey, Carson Jones, Luis Carlos Abregu and jesus Soto Karass.
Till then i'm not interested especially with Sky trying to make him sound World class off the back of a few wins over fringe contenders and No hopers.

Re: Is Kell Brook a victim of hype ??
I just love the revisionism present on this forum.
Jackiewicz is no world beating , multi-weight title holder but he is, and has been over the last four years or so, a very competent fringe world level operator, who has proven durability and the ability to have beaten fellow fringe level operators Jan Zaveck, Jackson Bonsu and Delvin Rodriguez (all names that would look impressive on Kells CV at this point in his career)
Kell Brook has progressed from the domestic scene, through European level fights and has now proven himself against a couple of gatekeepers at world level. He's not looked troubled at all in his career and his best wins have been against his trickiest opponents.
The whole point to building a career is that a fighter takes on tougher challenges to move to the next so-called level. That he dealt so easily with Jackiewicz should say more about Kells ability than Rafals, yet typically in an effort to see the negatives in everything, JAckiewicz is being dismissed as a lumbering no-hoper who came to earn a pay cheque and Brook is an over rated chump who's never done anything in the ring to warrant any positive assessment of his potential.

Re: Is Kell Brook a victim of hype ??
Well the stoppage was hardly warranted. It was another 'move' to add to the hype, to be honest. 'The first man to stop him.....'. Hardly, Kell would have pounded out a lop sided decision, this, on paper looks more impressive, though hardly accurate.
Kell is good, but again, as is typical of the British scene, the big promoters go for least threatening, coming off a loss, non puncher variety. You can hardly criticise the fans who know boxing and its boxers, when they see another British hope (as good as Kell is, and he is good) fed another guy, with little chance of winning and then listen to SKY or Warren or whoever, go OTT, trying to convince us that 'its the real deal'.
Some people find it insulting. Fight a guy who is a threat, come through that then take the plaudits. Some call it clever match making, but you can't have it both ways.
Can I just add, I rate Kell very highly. He is a quality fighter.

This forum is going down hill because it seems to continually thrive on the negative sh@t.
