Hello gentlemen (and ladies),
Let me introduce myself. My name is Daiji Asthorsson and I run an Icelandic language boxing site... http://www.boxing.is... What I am doing with that site will hardly benefit but a few thousand souls out here, but I think you will like my "topp10" feature, you will find it on the topbanner of the page... You don't have to speak the language to appreciate the immensity of the project I undertook on my own... A picture of 95% of all ranked boxers in all 17 divisions... 170 boxers in all... combined with information about their height, DOB, best performances and stylistic strengths and weaknesses. A career capsule is already underway for most of the heavier boxers... I hope to make this available to english speaking boxing fans in the future but I am here to speak of another project I am working on currently.
This I will call "The Ring Rankings Project," what I mean to do is to create a noncommercial site and gather all the Ring magazine rankings from the day they started, from willing participants in the project. This I hope will allow us aspiring boxing historians to quickly gauge the boxing landscape of any given era and an open mind can probably find various other uses for this information... I will gather images of the Ring covers to go along with each set of rankings. Also, later on I will slowly try to start an online monthly magazine which will feature articles or biographies of great [1] champions , [2] contenders, [?] journeymen, etc. But I'm getting ahead of myself. I wish to start this project by asking you to donate rankings from your Ring Magazines of the past decades... To do this please send an e-mail message with a list of which rankings you have available. It would be sad to see someone go through the work of scanning or typing down rankings I already have. I will then reply and tell you which one's we need, and we hope you will be so kind as to send them along. Please sign your first name(s) and your last name's initial, city, state (where appl.) and country. I will credit you on the page, once the bulk of the work is done. I am educated as a graphic designer so I think you will find the site aesthetically pleasing and well organized. This shall not be fruitless labor. I think we can all reap great rewards from making such a great resource available to the world. Remember, this will be a noncommercial project, I am not seeking compensation nor will I try to gather money from the site (if I can I will filter any profit to charity and maintain an open record). Anyway, I am sure copyright restrictions would prohibit me from making money of this site anyway :)
So if you send me a message please enter the information like this:
"February 1923, March 1923, April 1923..."
Please refrain from typing something like "feb.'23 - april '23..."
This will be quite a project for one man and clarity of response will be much appreciated. There might be a gap in the monthly publishing of the magazine that I am unaware of and typing "feb.'23 - april '23..." might cover that gap and lead me barking up the wrong tree.
Ring Magazine cover scans to be used will be small, 72 x 104 pixel jpg files.
I would like to thank you now for your future contributions and I look forward from hearing from you and what you think. Any suggestions are more than welcome. Hope I didn't leave anything out.
Regards,
Daiji Asthorsson
