Whoever mentioned Emanuel Augustus/Burton, thats a great shout though probably 3/4 years too late to be a proper acid test.

Sorry, but don't buy that at all. It's at least eight years since Burton was in the sort of shape where he could have provided any sort of test and you'll also forgetting that he campaigned a weight division lower. Far better gatekeepers around.manno wrote:Whoever mentioned Emanuel Augustus/Burton, thats a great shout though probably 3/4 years too late to be a proper acid test.

Like that Polish guy ranked no.7 in the world. Hang on a minute......Deserter wrote:Sorry, but don't buy that at all. Re: Kell Brook emerges as genuine world class welterweight
I think the title of the thread is a joke, there is no way this win make Brook world class. I want to see him fight a fast mobile fighter before he gets a title shot. He looks fast compared to slow guys but hasn't really shone IMO since he beat McIntyre.
I think Berto, Colazzo, Margarito, Ortiz and even Tim Bradley would handle Brook. The mention of Pac, Mayweather is absurd just now.
Honestly, who has he beat with world class speed of hand or foot? World class power?

Sorry, your right reguarding the time scale (too much hammer!)Deserter wrote:Sorry, but don't buy that at all. But let's say the Pole was number 10 in the world (he was higher with some, lower with others).
If so, let's say Brook is now in the top ten welters in the world - and he completely outclassed said chap.
Is that fair?

Yes that's fair Ian. I just don't feel that guy was the tenth best welter in the world personally but then its not up to me.
It seems he is taking the path of least resistance to a title and that's not the way to do it if he really wants to beat guys like Berto and Ortiz. I can't imagine him ever fighting Floyd or Pac but then Floyd did fight Henry Brussells so there is a chance.
Re: Kell Brook emerges as genuine world class welterweight
Don't worry, completely understand where you're coming from as he was such a great gatekeeper in his prime - I'll never forget his dismantling of Thaxton, which at the time came out of the blue.manno wrote:Sorry, your right reguarding the time scale (too much hammer!)Deserter wrote:Sorry, but don't buy that at all. Re: Kell Brook emerges as genuine world class welterweight
matchroom do throw fighters in at the deep end and most of the time it has backfired for them so i hope they dont rush kell in with someone like berto just yet.
audley v haye. the less said, the better
mckloskey v khan and prescott. prescott won the fight IMO and khan outclassed dudey
barker v martinez. brave but not good enough and was never going to win
rees v derry. ok not thrown in a fight he couldn't win but he was losing until derrys nose went.
if kell was to lose badly, matchroom would be left with froch and he's not going to be about forever.

His tear up with Ward is my personal favourite.

"Imagine they had brought over a Glen Johnson (ala Twoks Owwhatverthefukhisnamewas) or a say a Vince Phillips or Emanuel Augustus type of skillful US black fighter..."
Vince Phillips ain't black, last time I checked. Your ignorance is staggering. You are/were genuinely trying to infer that white people can't fight as well as black people. And now you look ridiculous.

Re: Kell Brook emerges as genuine world class welterweight
I think you'll find vince Philips is black, 46 years old and hasn't fought for 4 years but certainly black.
Re: Kell Brook emerges as genuine world class welterweight
Of course, the opposite would have been true with his previous promoter.jabnmove wrote:matchroom do throw fighters in at the deep end and most of the time it has backfired for them so i hope they dont rush kell in with someone like berto just yet.

'Would you have matched Darren Barker with Sergio Martinez?'
'No, because he'll lose.'
True, of course, but I thought it was quite revealing...
