Ruiz was Haye's mandatory deal with it! Fraudley was a picked defence.

Haye is a world class fighter with world championship wins in two weight classes. He has been matched tough throughout his career, and beaten some very good fighters. He had an early loss and came back a much better fighter for it, which shows his character. He also beat an absolute giant to win a portion of the heavyweight crown, and wobbled him as well.

His loss to Wlad is not shameful.I don't think having a broken toe and having to abandon sparring early will have helped his chances, and Wlad is huge, a massive puncher with very quick reflexes.

I think to go out with your marbles fully in tact is a great thing to do.I will miss watching him box. He was always looking for the knock out, and invariably got it.

I don't know why I'm chiming in with an argument against an obvious troll who is just trying to annoy everybody, but why would he 'hand pick' Ruiz, a notoriously boring, awkward fighter with little fan base and a hard sell to the British public? There would've been easier, more marketable 'hand picked' mandatorys than Ruiz who despite his advanced years was always tough and had only been stopped the once. If Haye hadn't have done him he would have looked very poor. But this Jade dude is just here to annoy, so I'm sure this will be a "stupid comment".

Back to the thread title, I think he was excellent at cruiser weight very exciting and willing to take risks. Very fast and excellent power. If he'd have stayed at cruiser for the rest of his career he would have been afforded much more respect and much less cash in retirement. Heavyweight career started off OK but he didn't fight anywhere near enough, fought poor opposition (Audley, Ruiz, Barrett- although I enjoyed both the Ruiz and Barrett fights and I like Monte Barrett) didn't look great in doing well to beat Valuev and turned in a poor performance against Wlad when he really stepped up. That the performance was probably the best anyone has performed against Wlad in years is vastly overshadowed by Haye looking like a tit for not backing up his boasts, for showing off his swollen toe in a very embarrassing excuse for a loss and for confirming to his detractors that he is a snake oil salesman and making his fans who were loyal to him (myself included) look like the bunch of mugs people always said we were.

If he were to come back and, say, beat Povetkin by KO (perfectly possible) and then put in a better showing against Vitali than Adamek (even if they just both went to war and he got KO'd in the 3rd like Hearns-Hagler he would be much more fondly remembered just for making a fight of it) then his heavyweight resume would be strengthened and his legacy would look better.

But for now it's just Audley and Wlad that he will be remembered for. He was a disappointment for his fans (even the most staunch supporters have to admit they had hoped for more) and a jokey footnote for everybody else. Which is sad. But he can use his stacks of £20's to dry his tears while he snorts coke off a model's arse, so I'm not crying for him.

Here's a Haye quote from 2010 that you WILL be able to find:

"I'm the most devestating fighter on the planet."
I asked him how he would fair against Tyson or Ali last year at a dinner show and he openly admitted in front of 400 people he would have been battered off the pair of them.

Don King

Cant doubt Hayes achievements at Cruiser but all his bluster and self-promotion at Heavyweight will ensure he will go down in history as one of the best Salesmen to enter the ring as opposed to his actual in-ring talent.

What on earth is Karl Jade talking about? The fight with Klit was built on the fact that the brothers could hold all four major titles. If Haye didn't fight Ruiz (who was his mandatory despite what you seem to think), he'd have been stripped of the title and he wouldn't have had the bargaining power with the Klits.

Some people amaze me. :witzend:

Actually I don't think he will be back in the ring. With Haye gone (if he does choose to retire) other people will step up, and he will soon become yesterdays news. (As is always the way in the Heavyweight division).

I'd rather see him fight Vitali Klitchsko at the start of next year. Haye has gone unfinished business, he's going out in a bad way... I'd like to see him get in the right with the older brother and see hwo that goes.

You honestly think the WBA would have stripped Haye of his belt if he'd decided on a more lucrative fight?

Ruiz was picked by both Haye and the WBA. There's no other logical reason for John Ruiz to be in that position. A crap fighter who couldn't beat Valuev in 2 attempts and had only won 3 times in 5 years against club fighters.

In 3 years Haye's speed will be all but gone, and he'll be finished at all but domestic level.
If he stays retired for a year or more he'll not be back. Haye will not be short of an invitation or two to attend Parties, clubs, etc. I know he has a family, to whom he's devoted to, but he's a likeable & personable guy, so people will want him at their places, parties, etc.

I'd be willing to wager that he'll never be back in the Ring for a financial reason. Haye is no dummy & I'm sure he's made investments, etc.

If he stays retired then good luck to him. If he decides to fight Vitali soon, I'll be hoping he knocks him out, but I can only see a Win for Klitschko.

Haye's best moments were somewhat undershadowed. His career was somewhat, and undeservedly, below the radar until he beat Valuev. He ruined a lot by his unsavoury and ultimately cautious in-ring behaviour against a very classy Klit. Unfortunately this was the high profile event. In some ways, with the right tv/promoter he could've been a Nigel benn character. But he may have made up with remuneration. Good luck to him

Haye was a very good cruiserweight, and an above average heavyweight. No more, no less.

Im not personally dissapointed in his career, as i never really bought into the hype in the first place. I knew he had no chance against either Klit after watching him against Valuev, a poor version of the klitchskos. It was clear he knew he could not afford to stand in range against the really big men of the division. To do so would have ended with him getting knocked out.

The cruiserweight division has always been pretty weak, and Haye was about the best around. I don'blame him for moving up, nobody really cares about cruiserweight, and as a result, there's very little money in the division.

Haye's conning of the british public is going to very much hurt his legacy, the fact he was perceived to not really give a go when the moment came against wlad, counts against him.

Bruno always gave it a go, whether he won or lost, and thats why he was remembered with so much affection.

I think Haye's career will be more apprieciated as times goes on, its just a shame that a heavyweight career that promised so much (by Haye mostly) just didn't pan out.

Also he was never a big ticket seller for alot of his career, had his best win against Mormeck abroad and that fight not watched by many.

People will look back at his record and wonder what on earth the fuss was all about. His best win comes against either an old Valuev or an old Mormeck, which says it all.

Wlad Klit will eventually get beat too, which will undermine it further.

I'm willing to bet he's maybe 14 or 15? Just old enough for his balls to be dropping and maybe questioning his sexuality. Besides, he's an out and out irritant on the subject of Haye so I dunno why everyone's getting so annoyed with him. Good trolling, Karl. I thought I remembered you from before. Here's Karl winding up Kingfinn about how Haye isn't a puncher: http://boxrec.com/forum/viewtopic.php?f ... 2&start=50
