Bernard Hopkins : Will this injury end his career ??

In light of what happenned last night in the fight with Dawson, will Hopkins confirmed shoulder injury end his career ?

I hope it doesn't, but it will take some time to heal and i'm not sure at this pont whether Hopkins will need surgery. Buncey was saying last night that Hopkins could go on until he is 50 years old and reckoned he had at least another 5 fights in him, which i don't go along with, but i'm hoping that Hopkins can come back and have a re-match with Dawson at the very least. Very strange decision last night, because apparently a contest can only be scored as a technical knock out if a legal blow was thrown and clearly Dawson lifted Hopkins up and threw him to the canvas, which is a clear foul. The contest should have been ruled a no contest. I said in another thread that so many times in fights we are getting refereeing decisions that are out of the ball park and it seems that the avergae fight fan has way more judgement on these things than the actual people officiating the fight.

I hope that Hopkins recovers quickly and a re-match can be made, because surely Dawson can't be happy with how he just mugged the title off Hopkins.

Was it not ruled a NC? I only caught a bit of it on Yt. Is it he same shoulder he bust against echols? Could be curtains for bernard unfortunately.

It was ruled a TKO, which is what is so confusing about this who debacle.

The most rediculous call I have seen...... I mean "accidental" head clashes resulting in a fighter being unable to continue results in a NC.... how wasn't this?

It was a blantant foul (although maybe not a DQable offence) and Dawson post fight press conference didn't do him any favours.

Agree though, Hopkins didn't look himself - maybe time to call it a day on a "high" (as oppose to a proper loss) or look for different pastures (e.g. Cruiserweight).

Hopkins will be back at least one more time yet. If he gets blown out in his next fight, it's a sure time for B-HOP to reconsider retirement.

Are you serious? Have you ever watched Hopkins especially in the last few years? He starts slow and figures his opponents out after a few rounds and expolits there weaknesses, he won the first round. How did "He know it wasn't going to be his night" because he didn't throw much in the second round? What a joke of a post.

Hopkins went to hospital straight after the fight and got it diagnosed, so he was hardly faking it.........

Why on earth would he fake it in the 2nd round ?

As for Dawson, i'd say Pascal, Cloud and Cleverly all have a chance of beating him, none of them stand out as being the best.

Totally agree with BoxingAnalyst

The first 2 rounds showed us that Hopkins was already dictating the pace of the fight and making Dawson box to his gameplan like he did to Pascal in their 2nd fight as well. He would have slowly broken down Chad and then drowned him during the second half of the fight.

The TKO decision is totally baffling and almost certain to be changed to a NC in a week if sane minds take over especially after the Doctor has confirmed the seriousness of the injury and proved it was legit and made it next to impossible for Hopkins to continue in the fight.

My opinion is that Hopkins deserved to be thrown to the floor. He tried to jump onto Dawson's back for feck sake! Both his feet were off the floor not because Chad lifted him but because he followed through with his right and launched himself forward towards Dawson to instigate a clinch. I've seen Hopkins use this move in many of his fights and he had also done it in the 1st round against Chad. However because Dawson bent low this time Hopkins ended up on Dawson's back. What you you guys want Dawson do to? Let him down gently? Take him for a piggyback around the ring? Or shove him off?

Now I don't think he should have lost his title and the contest should have been declared a no contest but I would not say it was a deliberate foul on the part of Dawson. Hopkins created the situation that ended with his injury.

To lose your title that way is an absolute disgrace and the people involved should be ashamed of themselves. Both fighters have to at least be partly accountable because Hopkins leant on him and then Dawson pushed him off. The fight should have been a no contest.

Dawson's actions after the fight only served to show what a tool he really is.
