Weeks 28-30 - Open Title Shots

Post by allworld80 »

Weeks 28, 29, and 30 will be used for open title shots. Beltholders can give the less than stellar fighters a chance to win a world title, and the usual rules and stipulations don't apply. Even fighters with losing records or those coming off a loss can fight for a title. Mandatories will not be enforced during this time either.

However, if your fighter gets a shot at the belt and loses, he isn't eligible again under the open title shot rules. He'll have to do it the old fashioned way.

You and Jimmy Young were the inspiration behind this decision. While it would be comically ironic if you didn't get a title shot, I hope you do.

PLEASE say that this also means that other champions can not continue to "RUN FROM THE ROCK"....if it's an open week it should really be "OPEN". And this means that one belt holder can face another belt holder IF any belt holder had the cajones to take a risk agains THE TRUE CHAMP. Otherwise every belt holder will be seeking out fighters like NORTON basically to take a week off.

Unification bouts are not sanctioned unless they meet the criteira, same as always.

Would like to suggest that defences made in this open week, do not count towards the three defences unification stipulation.

I second this. Crease is taking advantage.

You can bet ol' Crease will March Eri Esch right into the ring with Joe, if he can get away with it.

I don't have a problem not counting these 3 weeks towards unification if that's the consensus.

I don't think we'll see a true unification fight though by the end of the season.

Commish, from matchup thread:

Commish, we had arranged a stable war with Kevo this week to sort out the loose ends of Stribling - Ali & Schmeling - McCall.

Stribling got his arse out last week as he thought his shot was in the bag. Can you clear this up please oh great one?

If allowed -

Kevo - Stable War?

The title fights for the open weeks should be counted in Champions title defences, just as they are any other week.

Eric Esch? No he isn't a managed fighter... I won't stoop so low as to offer an unmanaged fighter a shot at glory (JD Chapman? ringing any bells?)

Tune up toward greatness ring any bells? He was undefeated in his career by the way. You were cordially invited to drop your belt this week and have Joe's bell rung by THE ROCK......what did you do? You ran.

The end.

No, Joe wanted to give an unranked challenger a shot at glory. Why is it you only want to fight Joe when he is a World Champion?

How am I taking advantage? What did you all think was going to happen? Open Weeks mean ANYONE can get a World Title shot. Even The Commish predicted that rank of challengers were likely to drop.
If you don't like it, then next season no Open Weeks. It's as simple as that.

You picked a soft defense with the highest ranked fighter in the BRS - you should be challenging the best because you have a monster in Louis, open weeks or not. Yet, you pick David "me toe hurts" Haye who is managed by the newest NOOB. No HOF for you, sonny.

Have you seen Joe Louis record?
Ali, Dempsey (x2), Johnson, Tyson, Foreman, Frazier, Liston
He's fought them all (except Marciano)

The two weeks when BoxBuzz expressed interest in fighting Joe Louis, he was asking Joe to drop his World Title. Joe wants to try and become the first man to unify the titles and that won't happen if he drops titles.

Make that three (or more) because we offered up a shot to Louis this week as well. Crease simply hides behind his belt (and dress) over and over and over again.

Marciano just fights to prove who is the best.....he's not impressed with the glitter and sparkle, unless it's the shine of crimson on his glove. That's why he's ALWAYS #1 whether he has just dropped a belt or not.
