Theres lots of lists of our best boxers and time and time again we have Ali, Robinson and Louis mentioned...nothing wrong with that I should add (apart from Ali who most will know I don`t like...but he does deserve his place).
And some of our more enlightened posters will add in Charley Burley and old Sam Langford.
But who are the now forgotten and then so avoided fighters that don`t even seem to get a passing mention.
You know the ones who had to fight out of their natural weight to get fights and even then got side stepped, fighters like Jimmy Bivins, Tiger Jack Fox or even Louis `Cocoa Kid`Hardwick.
Best of the not so well known boxers?

Ken Overlin (127-20); Cocoa Kid (166-58-10); Aaron Wade (54-15-4); Steve Belloise (95-13-3); Al Hostak (63-9-12, 42ko); Jimmy Leto (84-23-7, w/wins over Burley and Chalky Wright); And Izzy Jannazzo, 65-47-15, 9KOs; foght Robinson 4 times, Eddie Booker, Belloise, Barney Ross, Ceferino Garcia, Leto two times, Solly Krieger, Holman Williams 3times, Cocoa Kid twice, Georgie Abrams, Fritzie Zivic. Stopped only by Belloise, Krieger, Robinson twice, Zivic and Coley Welch who was 64-11 at the time. Guys like him were the back bone of the sport and the lack of guys like him is the reason we don't see champs like Robinson etal any more
Well put, "TRUE" Champions and Contenders...
I doubt boxing will every be the same(?).
Nothing wrong with todays good fighters, it's just that the question has to be asked; "would they remain at the Top, if they fought more often and took on 'leading' contenders and Champions REGULARLY???
Are they 'Really' greats worthy of Historical recognition ahead of the many names mentioned? And many more still to be mentioned?
Jock McAvoy and Ernie Roderick - FANTASTIC!
