TONY AYALA (AGAIN)
Okay so who in your opinion were baby bulls best wins against?
Since he only fought "stiffs" in the opinions of most people round here i'm interested to know what you think his solid wins on the way up were..?

Ayala is more myth than any thing else... lots of raw talent yes, but had he been able to face the likes of Moore and Duran I see his flawed mind unravelling and him being found out. Duran would have destroiyed him and i think Moore would have beaten him as well.
Basically Ayala was a bully, talented, but a bully still and they are usually found out in the end when they step up in class.

I remember "The Ring" did an expose on him within their new faces column.
His rap sheet was incredible, he had numerous suspended sentences for strangling babies and beating the shit out of women.
So no surprise whe n he was finally locked up.
But to call the family animals.
Brothers Mike & Paulie were legitimate enough fighters who left the anguish and frustrations in the ring. What happened to Tony.

If memory serves me right Tony Ayala Junior was convicted on a couple of occasions of serious assault and was handed suspended sentences.
One being for 5 years for the killing of his child.
Would need to check "The Rings " archive for that one. Pity I through all my magazines out recently
But he was a nasty piece of work prior to turning pro. He just switched his aggression into the ring, before getting done with raping a school teacher.
I guess the culmination of all his priors caught up with him hence the heavy sentence he received for rape when you consider Tyson only went down for 6 yrs (served 3)

I don't recall anything about hurting babies(not saying it didn't happen)but I do remember an article around the time he was going to get out or was up for parole by a writer who had first hand knowlege of the case he was sent to prison for and apparently it was exceedingly brutal.fornicate Ayala,he had it made and he fucked it up.The only sad thing about it is he had to hurt others, women no less, probably with emotional, and maybe physical scars for life.fornicate HIM.Gordon wrote:I remember "The Ring" did an expose on him within their new faces column.

P.S. I loved the way he tried to intimidate Teddy Atlas on tv and Atlas didn't back off one inch.

Please elaborate on this one more-- what fight was this & where did the incident come from?
Atlas as usual playing the tough guy despite having only a handful of junior novice amateur fights to his name.
If I remember correctly Teddy called Ayala a quitter after he lost to Campas and in a comeback fight during the post-fight interview Ayala tried to get Atlas to take it back,Ayala was really mad about it and Teddy said no way or words to that effect.Ayala was trying to be menacing and Atlas didn't look scared at all.Regardless of Teddy's boxing experience we can all rejoice when poor little Torito gets put in his place. Are you mad because Atlas stood up to that rapist?I hope not.

Never mind his amateur fights, the guy has a scar on his face that would have made Ronnie Kray wince. How did he get that? He didn't get it shaving that's for sure, not unless he shaves with a machete. Also didn't he once give a young Mike Tyson a pep talk with a pistol to his head, or is that just a myth?overhand_right wrote:Atlas as usual playing the tough guy despite having only a handful of junior novice amateur fights to his name.
BTW Ayala is a piece of shit, end of.
Tony Ayala
Don't kid yourself, Tony Ayala had incrediable poise as a
young boxer and it appeared that he had a terrific chance
to be an outstanding fighter or even a great one. But he
chose a different road. Due to his crimes, I don't have
any sympathy for him and it is obvious that he belonged
in the slammer.

Ayals and Davey Moore
In addition to having punching power, Ayala had more boxing
skills than the Davey Moore of the 1980s.

No, it was Robbie Epps.Gordon wrote:Not 100% sure but wasn't that Mario Maldonaldo.
He floored Ayala in the first. And had been insulting the Ayala family saying they were animals.
El Torito came off the canvas KO'd him and then spat on him as he lay on the canvas
He used to be trained by Ayala Snr as an amatuer. Epps father was in the USAF based in San Antonio
Thanks for that correction I wasn't too sure if it was Epps or Maldonaldo.
If you can get your hands on the Ring magzine with El Torito on the cover from 1982
I think the cover pic has him with a matadors red rag thingy.
There is a piece on him in there which gives a list of hist more serious convictions.

Physically and skill wise he was already a man when he was a young boy.
Mentally he was weak, similar to Tyson in many ways.
Give him his due, a prime Ayala was great to watch and a fearsome fighter.
I sympathise with him in the knowledge that he was abused as a child and must have been carrying a lot of turmoil for a lot of years.
A very sad story all round.

Yeah, I remember him trying to excuse his atrocious behaviour as being a result of being abused himself. After all that time he'd had in jail to reflect and he still came up with "It wasn't my fault really". What a dork.
And it's only opinion as to whether he was a better prospect than Davey Moore. Actually, Moore went on to win a world title whereas Ayala didn't even get to contender status did he? Where any of the fellows he beat world top 20 when he beat them?
I think Duran would have ripped him apart like he did Moore. Just my opinion, of course.

I seem to recall that at the time of his arrest he had signed to fight Moore and was an overwhelming favourite to take the light middle weight title.
I also remember that it was made apparent that he had already brutally raped and beat up another young woman who had allowed herself to be "bought off" to the tune off $600'000 to drop the charges.
the next young woman he raped, sodomised and beat to within an inch of their life refused his family's "kind" offer.
I also seem to remember that in his defence he offered the gruesome details of having been sexually molested by more than one member of his family. He was a fantastic talent but one I can live without seeing. Rightly or wrongly He should not ever have been allowed to mix in society again, the human rights brigade have a lot to answer for.

He knocked out Carlos Herrerra in 3 , after Herraera had lost a 15 round decision to Maurice Hope.
Ayala would have beaten Moore
