Area boxer Ishika Lay remains in coma
Ishika Lay, the Jacksonville resident who collapsed during a boxing match at the National PAL Championships last week, remains in a coma at Mercy St. Vincent Hospital in Toledo, Ohio.

Lay, 32, is in intensive care and has been in critical condition since the bout Oct. 4. John Phillips, a Jacksonville attorney representing the family, said doctors are trying to prevent blood clotting and fluid buildup near her organs. Lay was attempting to qualify for the U.S. Olympic trials for women's boxing when she fell to the canvas during the second round of a bout with Sherry Whetten of

Had just heard yesterday that Ishika is no longer in a coma. Wonderful news!

Wonderful news lets hope she makes a full recovery.The last I heard Pedro was awake and knew/recognised his visitors but I have heard nothing this year.
