A few think he should have taken a point from Nathan but at least one low blow was borderline and the early rollicking may have worked on Tony’s favour as Richie made it clear he’d stand for no nonsense so Cleverly may have thought ‘a few more low ones and I’m out’ and ditched the body attack, which was paying dividends midway, for head hunting, much to the relief of Bellew’s ribs.

It was keenly but fairly contested. People don’t mind big talk when guys a) produce b) put it to one side post-fight.

Well this comment surprises me Jane. I respect your access, exposure and greater wisdom here but I find it hard to accept.

I thought Richie intervened to quell any sillyness the first chance he got but let us not forget Tony really did throw his head in in that corner. The fight was left to ebb and flow after that with both fighters knowing where the line was.

The low blows were a bot of an issue and NC definitely deployed a couple on the blindside on purpose but I don't think any were spectacularly low.

It was a tremendous fight between two good guys and it was a healthy, honest conclusion. I had it closer but was listening to commentary, wasn't marking a card but did feel they gave TB one or two that were very easily either way. Cleverly tended to always be the busier for longer periods.

Bellew boxed really well, at times his double jab work was beautiful.

Great fight.

It was a great fight and i think Davis was playing to the crowd There was nothing intentional from Tony as they both said at the post fight presser as for sending Mark from his corner shows you Richie about himself simple as Mark Quinn was in the corner cheif second BTW

The head looked very deliberate to me on replay.

Couldn't really make out what the fuss in the corner was even about.

I have to be honest I didnt think you stood a chance before the fight. I also didnt like the hate stuff. Two things happened that surprised me. One you proved you were a very worthy opponent and you fought your heart out. Two you took the defeat like a gentleman and showed your respect to Nathan. I think you deserve another crack at Clevs title, nobody has given him a tougher fight, and I think its only right you should get another chance. That wide score was rediculous. One round, two at the most, it was very close.

I thought Davies went a little over the top with that opening broadside on Bellew but as it turns out he sorted out the 'naughties' straight away and it was generally a clean fight. So well done to him.

He's the best of a bad bunch over here, but he's nothing compared to Bayless, or Weekes and many others.

Very interesting to read your comments on here regarding my performance. Only thing I have to say is the reason Tonys cornerman was sent away from the corner in the last round was because he was banging on the canvas, which is not allowed. Heat of the moment, I know for which he apologized as soon as the final bell went. Congratulations to two great fighters on a sterling performance. It was a pleasure and an honour to have shared the ring with two lovely guys.

taken in the manner of the gent you are Ritchie. Ive seen you referee hundreds of fights many from ringside, if this is the best the nay sayers can do you can consider yourself a champion.

I thought Richie Davies was excellent and he is the best ref in Britain imo.

I agree that Richie is one of the best but I didn't think it was his best performance.

Thought the incident in the first round was a bit 'strong' and then a few lowblows went unpunished.

That said, the fight ended well. No bad blood (seemingly) between either camp and a lot of respect was shown. Can't complain.

To be fair iv been told off about this much more sternly than actualy shouting an instruction so it must be something that is frowned upon.
Havnt seen the fight was working at another show. But if no points were taken off undesrved no knockdowns were called wrong and no one was stopped or DQed controversly then can not see how it can be too wrong?

In my opinion it was justified to be forceful. RD is our best ref and thats all there is to it.

I've said it once and I'll say it again, he done a good job and is a good ref! It's the judging that needs looking at not the ref IMHO

taffytoon wrote:Richie had to take control very early or it would have not been the great fight it was, had he let the heads go in then a cut could have cost us a truely great all British title fight. Well done Richie
x 2 he sorts the nonesense out early and lets the fighters get on with fighting. He's always been spot on whenever i've seen him. He also doesnt get involved that much.

He knew there had been trouble between clev and bellew so made sure it didnt turn into a brawl by going going ape shit at the earliest dirty move (definatley a calculated tactic). Bang on!

I think ur miles off, tony did try to use the head, Richie made sure bellew and clev knew if any dirty stuff happened they would be out on their arses and because of that we then had a great fight. Clev threw some low blows on the blind side of the ref, which richie let bellew recover from and he also clearly turned a blind eye to bomber giving clev one back.

I was at the post fight presser there was no intent from Tony Both fighters agreed

It looked to me as if Tony made an effort to make contact with the head. Whether he meant to or not thats how it looked and a ref has to make a judgement call. RD is the best we have. His early intervention helped make it the contest it was, imo.
