The commentator's curse often raises its head in anything like this. No commentator thought Tyson-Bonecrusher would go the distance, for example, and said it straight after the first bell? It then went the distance and proved appalling. Eamonn Magee against Takaloo is a lesser example, if no less of a stinker.
Usually, it is the other way round, with a fighter of renowned durability getting the same commentator treatment when he is nailed by a nobody and goes down and out. Freddie Roach got sparked this way by Lenny Valdez (ha ha!) and Doug DeWitt by Jose Quinones. George Foreman, only articulate and engaging when he is talking about himself and his own fights, kept writing off Holyfield against Tyson in the first fight - then Holy put Tyson on his arse, literally.

Haye Wlad had potential to be a stinker in hindsight due to Haye. If he employed his boring tactics as he did vs Valuev, it would have been a very boring fight. Wlad would have just jabbed jabbed jabbed and Haye would have ran ran ran and tried the occasional right hand, which probably wouldnt have landed. Amazingly, I think it would have went to a decision!

Not quite the same, but I watched Froch vs Pascal from outer ringside and after the first couple of rounds I was saying to the guy next to me that there's no way it would be going the distance given the pace they were fighting at, the bombs they were throwing and the way defence was being disregarded as they bidded to 'out-man' one another. He agreed completely!

Yes, was just thinking Maidana-Corley. Didn't bet for real but lost a HEAP on Boxpicks.

Maidana has been pitched as a killer puncher for ages now, and Corley is well washed up and has been stopped several times in recent years. How on earth that went 12, I'll never know.

Ok giys. I'm looking to put a mortgage bet on Haye v Audley not going the distance. Is there any way whatsoever that this fight can go 12?

I followed their careers and I think the answer is a resounding no but I need convincing

I go with Tyson-Bonecrusher Smith as well. Bonecrusher had just demolished Tim Witherspoon in impressive style and Tyson...well, he was demolishing everyone.

Smith then put in a terrible performance :witzend: and was petrified of Tyson until he knew the finishing line was in sight and finally threw some bombs.

Left hook, I wouldn't be as sure. Untill the last round no-one one close to scoring a KD (let alone KO) in Haye vs Valuev. Okay, Valuev's chin is much better than Audley's but I cannot help but think Haye would adopt similar tactics against a man with a significant height and reach advantage.

I'm not sure Haye is an effective "in and out" fighter. He likes to box at range and I can definately seeing a few rounds before Haye connects "properly". Lets not forget Audley is terrified of taking shots, so that makes him hard to hit properly.

I think when Haye connects it is lights out, same if Audley connects - but I wouldn't be surprised we have a Valuev vs Haye esque stand off.

In answering the original thread question.

MAB vs Naz.

There's always a chance. Audley would probably let it go 12, but would Haye? I don't think so. 99% sure it will end with a stoppage.

Going off at a tangent, but when I was at the Froch-Pascal fight, given the pace they set off at in the first few rounds and the bombs they were throwing I was utterly convinced there was no way it was going to the final bell and would have bet the house on it...

Ah lefthook, I remember agonising with you over the Wlad/Haye under as I put a similar amount on and felt sick when I actually stopped to think how much money it was. was gutted when the fight was cancelled.

yeah, this one isn't going the distance. my money is on the first two rounds with a small win for round 3 and a hedge on 4 and 5. Haye is one of the most accurate one shot punchers in the world and audley one of the most flat footed with a soft chin to boot. I can see Haye landing the same shot he nailed Ruiz with early doors but Audley won't be getting up. Ruiz would walk through Audley. I wouldn't go for the 'mortgage' under bet unless I could get 1/2 or so, what odds did you get?

on top of this im going for a treble involving an early haye win, a hopkins win and a maidana ko.

i've had amare on this

3 figures at least on tyson/del boy, brook/ndou, martine/nisihikoa double, degale/nathan double and haye/klit (my biggest losing bet ever)

But now I'm thinking of Angulo/Kirkland. That Kirkland is well reckless. Between them they have stopped all but 6 of their opponents. Surely this doesn't see 12

I could imagine it going 12. I think the likelihood is that Kirkland gets stopped, but if he's doing okay, it could go the distance.

Frankie Gavin v Curtis Woodhouse? Most expected an easy night for Frankie.

Frank Bruno v Oliver McCall? Probably not an obvious one but Bruno wasn't known for going the full 12 rounds.
