Archie Moore versus Ken Norton
Archie Moore versus Ken Norton
Moore would be giving up a lot of height and weight, but could he get to Norton's shaky chin?
Re: Archie Moore versus Ken Norton
Norton on points.
Re: Archie Moore versus Ken Norton
Wasnt there some type of near skirmish(or a threat of)
when Ken Norton was trying to date one Archie Moore's daughters?
I know Archie Moore KO'd some big guy in Africa
back in the late 1970's,when the big bully tried to
confiscate a camera he was taking pictures with in Africa.

Moore on points.
(I can see Archie flooring Norton a few times, which aids him in a points victory)

Re: Archie Moore versus Ken Norton
I think Ken Norton's strength advantage wins the fight here. Moore had some modest success at Heavyweight, but he never beat anyone on Norton's level and didn't have the same type of power at Heavy as he did at 175. I figure Moore at the top of his game could last the full route, but he'd lose a clear-cut decision
Re: Archie Moore versus Ken Norton
I don't think Kenny could beat Moore or Charles.
Re: Archie Moore versus Ken Norton
Kenny beats both, Moore and Charles.

Norton has a very bad style for both Moore and Charles. They would certainly make the fights very competitive prime for prime but I see Norton prevailing vs both with his greater size, awesome left jab, and most importantly excellent work-rate and stamina down the stretch.

At the same time, I consider both men (especially Charles) pretty under-rated as Heavies.
Re: Archie Moore versus Ken Norton
Dempsey I see your point regarding styles, and perhaps I have a bias for those two fighters, though sometimes tenacity and "strategery" lol have a place in this discussion as well as actual performance. With that said I know that Norton was very well coached regarding Ali, and I've held doubts that he would have accomplished what he did, left to his own designs. Sort of like a football team that has all the players, but no one to coach them can flounder. Norton needed the sage advice to do his best. Moore and Charles were for the most part self starters once they established their game (IMHO) and thus I give them an edge in some of these hypotheticals.
I have come to the conclusion that you are a very astute assessor of how various styles may interact. However I often consider just how many of these "styles" are self generated vs how many were brought to their skill level by very specific coaching for very specific fighters. Tarver and Jones might be a good example of what I'm talking about. Tarver was a "boutique" opponent for Jones, as Norton to Ali.

...as usual, buzzy adds unnecessary words to his second reply, which was a succinct and correct response....."no he doesn't."

I'm glad to said that. I think they were too.Goodnight, Irene wrote:At the same time, I consider both men (especially Charles) pretty under-rated as Heavies.
Re: Archie Moore versus Ken Norton
Neither hit hard enough to make Kenny back up on a consistent basis. That was Ali's Achille's Heel though he did back him up from time to time. Therefore Kenny does well against both of them.

Yep, you're right.jaclem2 wrote:...as usual, buzzy adds unnecessary words to his second reply, which was a succinct and correct response....."no he doesn't."
