Rightfully so too and the ref should be sacked. To award this to Dawson in the first place is a joke

Only fair to be honest. It was a farce to start with and the way Dawson spoke in his interview afterwards I am glad he doesn't get the belts now. Never heard much about Dawson before so cannot comment, but he came across as a complete knob.

So what happens to people who bet on Dawson to win? Do they have to pay back their winnings?

He came across like a complete tool but that's probably from spending too much time with Gary Shaw who has as much class as a rat with a gold tooth. However, most disappointing was Winky who acted like a total jackass, making out the Hopkins was looking for a way to quit.

Those three need a year in a old Surrey finishing school.

I suppose the main thing is that the correct decision has been reached one way or another.

For Hopkins to lose his title and it be awarded to Dawson for that would have been a travesty.

First we had 2 then 3 then 4 world governing bodies.
Then we had multiple world champions at each weight for each governing body (interim, super-champ etc.).
Now we have two different results for the same fight.

Remember this fight is still a win for Dawson until the state boxing commission changes it however unfair that is on Hopkins. The WBC can say what they want about the title but they can't overrule the result without the state commission agreeing.

Justice is served.

The fight should have been called a No Contest from the start.

Nobody will have to give back their winnings but the bookies should settle on the new result. They had the option of holding back the cash due to the dodgy ending

I guess I`m the only one who thinks that Dawson should have kept the titles then?

Hopkins injury is far from being proved legit. From what I`ve watched and read, the diagnoses was merely confirmed by Hopkins description of his claimed injury.
I believe 100% that he was playing to get Dawson disqualified.
In which case - he deserves to have the titles taken off him.

Hopkins is a legend and was a great fighter for sure. But he isn`t above trying to mug the ref/Dawson/fans in his desire to get the win on his record. :(

It's something that needs clarification, so maybe Hopkins should make moves to officially confirm what his injury is and back it up by medical statements, otherwise people will start to get sceptical.

My intial impression when watching the fight was that Hopkins took a way out then I read that his injury was legit and proven to be correct so it's should be a but then I started to wonder if Hopkins had Brother Nazeem stomp on his clavicle in the dressing room it would have been worth it to get his titles back. :oo

Conspiracy silliness I know ..

edit, meant no contest.

As I understand the rules, a bout should be declared a NC if a fighter cannot continue due to an accidental foul (as long as it is not a low blow). This is not contingent on whether or not the injury is proved to be legitimate via medical documentation. I can understand why some people might be skeptical of the legitimacy of Hopkin's injury, but he stated that he was in serious pain, and the ringside doctor deemed him unfit to continue.

Dawson clearly grabbed Hopkin's leg and shoved him to the ground---which is obviously a transgression---and Hopkins was unable to continue as a result. This should have been an easy call for the ref (NC), but he handled the situation poorly.
