Re: Pan American Games 2011
I´m looking forward to this competition. It can be seen live at
http://deportesus.terra.com/road-to-201 ... jara/live/
49 kg: I hold World Championships quarter-finalist Yosvany Veitia (CUB) as a slight favorite in this class in front of tough Juan Gabriel Medina (DOM).
52 kg: Dominican Dagoberto Agüero did upset cuban Robeisy Ramirez at the 1st qualifier and I think he´ll beat him again.
56 kg: Local hero Oscar Valdez will try to upset cuban world champion Lazaro Alvarez. And I think he´ll do that with a little help from the judges. Puerto Rican Felix Verdejo is the outsider.
60 kg: Another interesting weight class with World Champs silver medalist Yasnier Toledo, brazilian Robson Conceicao who had a great upset win over Vasyl Lomachenko before the jury stole his victory from him, and venezuelan Fradimil Macayo who has beaten both! Toledo is the favorite but can´t relax the way he did at some of his bouts in Baku.
64 kg: The most anticipated battle will be between 2009 World Champ Rosniel Iglesias (CUB) and 2011 World Champ Everton Lopes (BRA). Styles make fights and Iglesias is 3-0 over Lopes so he must be the favorite here. Outsiders are argentinian Fabian Maidana (younger brother of pro Marcos Maidana) and venezuelan Yoelvis Hernandez.
69 kg: Both cuban star Carlos Banteur and brazilian veteran Myke Carvalho flopped at the Worlds. Outsiders chance to venezuelan Gabriel Maestre and mexican 2008 World Youth Champ Oscar Molina (brother of pro boxers Javier and Carlos).
75 kg: 2008 Olympic silver medalist Emilio Correa (CUB) hasn´t shown great form after coming back from injuries. Jaime Cortez (ECU) and Juan Carlos Rodriguez (VEN) will try to upset the cuban.
81 kg: World Champ Julio Cesar La Cruz will be the big favorite but Ecuadors Carlos Gongora and brazilian Yamaguchi Falcao have an outsider´s chance.
91 kg: 2010 World Youth champ Leinier Perot (CUB) will miss the Olympics due to Jose Larduet qualifying in Baku. But the slick cuban is a big favorite in front of Julio Castillo (ECU) and Deivis Julio (COL) (who lost 13-12 to the cuban at the qualifier).
91+ kg: In the absence of huge favorite Erislandy Savon (due to a controversial RSCH loss at the Worlds) this weight is wide open with the favorite now being venezuelan veteran Jose Payares, who floored Roberto Cammarelle at the Worlds.
