Re: Womens European Championships 2011
Please post results when you can Mike. Appreciate it. Will you have your picks after the draw?!
Re: Womens European Championships 2011
The draw is probably on Monday so without a full list of participants my selections are -Olympic Weights first
112LBS
Brit Nicola Adams is full of confidence and with a degree of optimism I will go with her and really she has to to lay a marker for London 2012 soon.It wont be easy Russia Olesta Gladkova is in great form and Swede Shipra Engelke is a threat as is perhaps the Bulgarian Petrova
132LBS
Three current or former world champions should be in opposition Katie Taylor and Sofia Ochigava from Russia are definite entrants and the powerful Turk Gulsum Tatar is expected to drop down from Welterweight. This is not a formality for Taylor as both of the other girls hold victories over her. However Taylor normally finds a way to win and the Irish flag may be raised
165
Russian Nadezda Torlopova has lost a lot of weight to make this class but seems to have retained her power and I think she will win.Swede Anna Laurell and Pole Lidia Fidura are the chief dangers.Savannah Marshall from England may be a lively contender.
106
If Romanian Stella Duta is there she should win this otherwise look to the Russian Gnevanova or the Ukrainian entry to win gold
119
Russian Elena Saveleva is my choice with Turk Ayse Tas and Pole Sandra Drabnik the leading opponents
125
This may be won by Russian Viktoria Gurkovich but I think on their day Sandra Kruk of Poland and Bulkgarian Svetlana Staneva could win
141
In Tatars absence this weight is wide open but I will take a chance on Russian teenager Anastasia Belyakova who is stepping up in weight and has been selected by her country in front of a lot of big names. The Ukrainian selection will be the danger.
152
Hollands best chance of a medal on home soil Marichelle De Jong will be the one to watch and is a tentative pick.Poland and Ukraine will provide the main opposition
178
Russian middleweight Svetlana Kosova moves up a weight but I think Hungarian Timea Nagy or Pole Sylwia Kusiak will triumph.I will go with Nagy
+178
Anna Slowik of Poland,Irena Sineyatska of Russia and Turk Sennur Demir are the favourites.
I think Slowik may prevail

Re: Womens European Championships 2011
Nice to see four English girls getting medals.Nicola will be looking for gold as usual and Natasha defeating my tip for gold Belyakova shows she is in
good form.Savannah is a world championship silver medallist and as a result much is expected but I think this is Lisas first senior medal.
Two semi spots for Welsh girls as well following on from two male Olympic qualifiers.Success breeds success.
Anna Laurell and Shipra Engelke exit for Sweden but Helena Falk makes the last four and Katie looks good and should make the final.

Big win for Katie and she knew it throwing her hands up in celebration after the final bell.
The Russian girl didnt throw enough punches and couldnt get past Katies constant movement.
Nicola Adams trailed 0-2 after the first round and 3-4 after the second but stepped up the pace in the third and pulled away.Lynsey and Lisa were both very aggressive but were edged out by more experienced boxers
