Ever wanted a foreign fighter to beat a UK fighter when...

Post by Dioufy »

... you have no particular dislike for the UK fighter?

I ask because I want Katsidis to blow Burns away, even though I like Burns. I also wanted Katisidis to beat Mitchell, again, when I liked Mitchell.

Do you poofs have any examples?

Katsidis is an obvious example.

Unless I dislike the British fighter I'd generally want them to win, unless they're being hyped up to their eyeballs of course, or if I especially like the foreign fighter.

Kinda lucky that we'll never see Froch vs Marquez

I rarely cheer for a fighter on the basis of nationality, and when I don't have a strong opinion about either fighter I usually go for the underdog.

I did want Pavlik to beat Lockett.

Lockett is a top bloke, just don't think he deserved the shot.

Plus he had more interest in a housing portfolio that fighting, and fair play to him.

But didn't wanna see that fight, and hoped Pavlik beat him.

Going back to when I was younger but : Hearns to beat Andries, Fidel Bassa (used to love him) to beat Dave MaCauley (was always a Duke Mackenzie fan aswell) both times, J.C.Superstar to beat Andy Holligan and David Tua to beat Lennox Lewis :oo There's probably quite a few more after I have a think.

Tua has always had a lot of followers, something that hasn't dimmed as he's continued to underachieve throughout his career.

One thing that really does my head in though is when people say that ''if he'd been in the same shape he was when he fought Ike he'd have won'', when in truth that fight showed his level. A good, bordering on very good HW that would always lose to the top fighters.

Lewis toyed with him, the only criticism is that he didn't make any real effort to get Tua out of there in the late rounds.

A few times when Khan has mentioned Marquez I've felt pissed off, and wanted Marquez to take the fight, one I'm 100% certain he'd win by knockout in the late rounds. Just too good.

Been a Mayweather fan for years (probably 98/99) so wanted him to beat Hatton as had only followed him since 00.

Was rooting for RJJ (another long time favourite of mine) against Joe Calzaghe but knew he had no chance.

Mosley against Stone, but I didn't really know much about Stone back then.

I wouldn't support Mayweather against Osama bin Laden

If he somehow fought David Haye I'd be a Flomo just for one night.

I was in New Zealand when the Tua fight happened, the quietest bloke in the pub watching that fight. I was surrounded by huge Kiwis and South Sea islanders.

I was in NZ for that too and talk about fickle support. My memory is that Tua STARTED the fight as a New Zealander, but after having his head jabbed off by Lewis, very quickly became a South Sea Islander.

Why is it stupid? It's natural. It goes right down to the lowest level, e.g. if someone from the gym on my street had a fight vs someone from another town I'd naturally support my local man.

If it's stupid then it must also apply to other individual sports, e.g. athletics - will you not be rooting for Mo Farah/Jess Ennis next year?
