Probably the amateur fight of the year
Probably the amateur fight of the year
Dunno if anyone saw it last night at the ABA's but I've just watched the most brilliant fight I've seen in ages. Dudley O'Shaughnessy v Glenn Foot - toe to toe action for all three rounds, level on computer scoring (18-18) then still level on countback (however that works) and O'Shaugnessy then got the judges' vote. Personally I reckon they should have shared the title.
What does anyone else think ? Its on Hatton tv where they normally have the news http://www.brandhatton.com/TV
Both boys look good ernough for 2012 I reckon.....

HOLY TOLEDO!!!!! That's the best amateur fight I've seen, it's Ward-Gatti-esque (never thought I'd say that about an amateur fight).
Yeah they definitely should have been allowed to share the title

That was amazing ! Not normally a big fan of the amateur scoring system but I don't think pro judges would have been able to separate those two. Big respect to both guys. Agree they should have been allowed to share it
Re: Probably the amateur fight of the year
Foot's style reminded me of Hatton, the other guy of Calzaghe...is that a fair assessment do you think?
Awesome fight!

Shows how good amateur boxing can be.
I don't think even a sky or itv commentary team could spoil a fight like that!

Brillant fight, neither deserved to lose. Well done to both of 'em.
Re: Probably the amateur fight of the year
Quality fight!
Some real good kids coming through.
Check out Fowler... only 19 and winning fights in a scary manner. He's gonna' be more suited to the pros judging by his style, and will probably do BIG things.

Great fight that, think you can buy a copy of the dvd off the Hatton site, really like how they do that (they sell copies of the small hall non TV shows they do too). I'd heard some good things about Dudley O'Shaugnessey, but hadn't seen much of him.
Also to the original poster, are you the Rob Norton? If so any news fella?

Great fight, how come the computer scoring was so low tho' - they both connected with far more than 18 clean shots (is that how it works?)
Also, as much as Foot deserves massive respect for his effort, and he really does, O'Shaugnessey quite clearly won that from what I could see.

Great little fight, had Foot got that it would have been a shocker
As for repping England at the Olympics- no chance wouldn't fancy either fighters chances with Scott Cardle.

Re: Probably the amateur fight of the year
Duds is modelling full time now I believe, so isn't likely to be back boxing any time soon. Real shame, I think he was let down by the system as he (and West Ham) weren't given proper notice and prep time to box Fowler (?) to give him a chance for England/GB selection. He grew up a stones throw away from where the Olympics is being held and its disappointing after such a great final he never even got a shot.
But I guess RiRi more than makes up for that....

Aren't Cardle & O'Shaughnessy 2-1 Cardle in amateur bouts?Jeff Thomas wrote:But then Scott beat Foot who went life and death with Dudley- styles make fights as you well know budcanonball1234 wrote:I fort them both I beat Scott cardell 10/0 I would pick Dudley to win everytimeJeff Thomas wrote:Great little fight, had Foot got that it would have been a shocker

I'm not sure to be honest bud - I was basing my observation having watched that fight at the time. Both good fighters mind- Foot was tremendous last night.Insider wrote:Aren't Cardle & O'Shaughnessy 2-1 Cardle in amateur bouts?Jeff Thomas wrote:But then Scott beat Foot who went life and death with Dudley- styles make fights as you well know budcanonball1234 wrote: I fort them both I beat Scott cardell 10/0 I would pick Dudley to win everytime
