Lucien Bute vs Glen Johnson

Post by stujones »

Quite amazing we have a quality fight like that in a devision when we have two (one definate, one or sorts) world champions and two of the countries hottest prospects that this quality match up, at the moment - doesn't look to be shown on TV in the UK.

Come on Sky, Premier, allegedly, 5, even primetime (if its cheap) - why isn't this being shown.

Good news if true, I thought they only had the Kessler vs Stieglitz fight via Saulerland which was forming part of the double bill on Showtime with Bute vs Johnson (the German/Danish feed).

I think they were gonna show it live from Germany, wheras Sho were showing it on tape delay.

Offensively Bute is better than Froch who beat Johnson. However while his defence is better too his fitness will still have question marks over it as will his ability to deal with a pressure fighter who takes his power and still keeps coming, as in my opinion he should have been stopped against Andrade in their first fight. He could hardly stand and staggered right across the ring even before the knockdown and had that been Andrade in that shape Id bet the ref would have waved it off, regardless of scorecards and time left in the fight.

It's definately an intriguing fight. Bute's fans talk about how he trains like a demon, well let's see how his punch output is in this fight.

Offensively and defensively he may be better but he is certainly more vulnerable than Froch. Let's hope Johnson tags him at some point and backs him up. I want to see him under pressure

Andrade did and was a referee's intervention away from knocking him out.

Disagree somewhat.

Bute laboured with Tatevosyan and Froch almost knocked him through the ropes in 2. Also Magee was 30 when Froch left him in a crumpled heap with an oxygen mask on, not 36 and shaking off a body shot.

Defensively your point is valid, but I thought against Kessler, Abraham and Johnson he nullified well and walked through any massive punches.

Bute's bubble will burst the first time he steps out of his comfort zone and into a battle zone, because he don't have the metal in my opinion.

Kessler beat Andrade in first gear 120-108 across all the cards, Bute arguably got knocked in their first fight and is lucky it didn't come a minute earlier in the round or he'd already an ex-champ at the hands of a good journeyman.

Whilst its true Froch beat Magee in a more devastating fashion .. Magee did make Froch look clumsy and one dimensional up till that point .. whereas Bute mastered Magee in a more dominant fashion.
Magee himself said Bute was the best he`d ever faced.

So you can believe Magee, who knows both guys .... or Gomez, who only knows one of them :D :TU:

Sorry Gomez ;;-)
But your so predictable when it comes to potential Froch opponents ..

I honestly think Johnson has a shot at the upset here.

I agree with what you're saying, but Carl has improved so much since he fought Magee all those years ago. The Carl Froch of 2011 would box rings round the Froch of 2005-6. It's not really fair to make that sort of comparison between Froch and Bute. It's like trying to compare Evander Holyfield's victory( 1st fight) over Tyson with Danny Williams victory of Tyson. I'm not saying Magee's shot or anything like that, but there has been a lot of miles put on his clock in between fighting Froch and Bute.

And your basing Frochs improvement on his win over King Arthur :-? .. not his loss to Kessler right :D
I wouldn`t read too much into his outpointing the lazy and economical middleweight. And look more to his loss to the shop worn Dane for his true level..

I think your more predictable tony than I am

You labour the point about Bute being dominant, but Magee was dropped in the very first round at York Hall.

The fact he wrecked Magee with a snapped thumb, shows the disparity between Froch and Bute- whom was far more seasoned against Magee than Froch was at the time.

When Carl took his glove off at York Hall it was hanging south and the size of an apple. We drove him to NHS walk in centre after and he later had two pins put in until it recovered. He did that in the 1st round too.

All facts Tony.

Bute was vastly more seasoned, and against a much older Magee and with two hands couldn't improve on it.

maybe so..

But i have consistently said - that he is the best value British fighter we got on the world scene.

I do see Carls great points. Of which he has many.
I also see his faults .. Of which have already been highlighted on the world level scene.

But lets be honest here.
Magee is in a position to give a better opinion on the better fighter. And he said it was Bute.

Maybe found Bute a harder night's work given it was almost 7 years later.

Or perhaps it links up to the story in Belfast press that 'he wants Froch rematch'

We're both adults with brains who can decide who the best is, purely by the ending, and I think walking round the ring, angry with himself following a stoppage is a far cry from Sky commentators deeply concerned he is laying motionless as paramedics rush in and fit a mask over his face and keep him still as everyone fears the worst for his safety.

My opinion of Bute remains assured. His bubble was burst by a crude opponent in his own back yard if it wasn't for referee starling.

As soon as he fights elsewhere against a top name it'll be like Golden child vs Pirog.

see bute getting the job done.

like others have said though.

that 1st andrade fight makes ya wonder how he'll deal with johnson's pressure.

boxrec rating bute at 1 is a big fat joke.
