I guess it depends on your job but generally I couldn't give a rats arse whether or not some or any of them came in or not. If however I was under the impression that one of them had serious personal issues, I'd probably be more concerned than usual. Furthermore, the life of a boxer differs greatly from a 9-5 job. If my colleague came in, and had a nightmare day, he is still unlikely to be in harms way. Not quite the same when someone is there to punch your head in and your mind isn't fully on the job. Thinking about it, I'd actually say that if a workmate came in and divulged the sort of information Frankie did, there would be a huge amount of sympathy for him, as there is for Frankie from most people on thread.

As someone said earlier about Darren Sutherland, Boxing is not the most important thing in life infact its a hobby and a sport.

Some of the clowns on here would want to take a long hard look at themselves, the chap has gone through a lot of shit in his life in the last few years and all you dick heads are moaning about him not fighting .If he is in a bad way mentally he should take care of that first than come back to boxing if he wants ffs .

Boxing is not the be all and end all, its entertainment not real life . Frankie keep the head up lad .

Tell that to Gerald McClellan and Michael Watson (amongst many others) it got pretty "real" for them.
I did'nt mean it like that, I meant personal shit should come before any sport or you will end up like said boxers, worrying about real life things is more important than worrying about what fans think of you on a boxing forum or what people will think if you pull out of a fight because mentally you're not in the right place .

I haven't seen any 'dick head' on here say that Frankie (or anyone else) should fight if not ready. I could be wrong but it feels like Gavin's mates are deliberately misunderstanding the entirely legitimate complaints that have been made.

No-one wants him to fight if he's not in shape (for whatever reason). But fans are entitled to be disappointed when a show they may have shelled out a lot of money to attend crumbles before their eyes and is replaced by a palpably inferior show and they have no option of a refund.

I honestly wish this guy all the best, i have no opinion either way on him as a person. He's obviously made the right decision here. I think some of the pro fighters who post should be a little bit less precious when it comes to criticism, to be fair. Every single penny that comes into this sport comes from the fans' pockets one way or another. I hope that those who make their living from the game remember that.

As I said in my post, we don't know all the ins and outs - perhaps Frankie was pressured into this fight, remember the promise allegedly made - two live bills a week. Well if your week starts on Monday, there is only one on this week. Might not have been any had Frankie never agreed to this bout.

yeah maybe. i should have put "if some1 you'd invested money in" instead "workmates". Thing is, it may sound harsh but how many opportunities is this kid gona blow? The olympics and now this, if he isnt careful his career will be over b4 its begun. Hes got opportunities most fighters can only dream of and seems to not really give a shit what with the sloppy preparations and all that.

It seems lately that any boxer that posts on the net evokes arse kissing and non stop sympathy a ) we dont actually know if this child situation IS the reason he's pulled out. b ) a lot of fighters have had probs outside the ring and marched on. that champ in the states whos wife battled cancer, family members dieing, addictions etc. Nigel Benn used to fight time and again going through divorces and all sorts of dodgy shit. ok, its not the same but ultimately its PROFESSIONAL boxing. He'll b an old man b4 he knows it and it'll b a crying shame.

Anyway, yeah, i ultimately hope its nothing REALLY serious and he proves me wrong.

Fair point. I do get that those who had invested would naturally be disappointed, and that would be a completely understandable reaction. You can be disappointed, but understand a situation though and realise that there the lad isn't at his best at the moment and as has frequently been pointed out, during his last two fights.

When you talk about the opportunities being those that fighters dream of, I agree. It would have been the opportunities Frankie himself dreamed of. The fact that a bloke who loves fighting, training, and the sport itself hasn't maximised these opportunities (yet) tells me there is something wrong, something more than him not caring. That he has had a tough time of late is indisputable. You can't compare it with how other people dealt with their problems because none of us are the same, we all handle things in different ways. It would be like expecting all UK am boxers to win the world championship, because just look how Frankie dealt with that.... People are different.

I'd post the same whether Frankie posted here or not, I was plainly pro-Gavin in my posts before he joined the forum. People aren't shy to give it to boxers on here, but just because they choose not to, it doesn't mean they're arse kissing. Besides which, this is the last place I'd expect Frankie to be indulged in at the moment anyway.

Wonder how much will be said tonight?

I thought the kid being black was a give away! All jokes aside he must be so emotionally mixed up the last place he should be is a boxing ring! Gavin does put himself under alot of pressure & is now with the best people.I've never thought he would be a world champion but will allways be a massive fan & admirer for what he done in the ams.the boy is a legend!

I guess pulling out 1-2 days before a fight is the main gripe here, no-one is saying he hasn't got problems, but he's let a lot of people down here.

Its a really hard subject to comment on as being a fighter you understand that it gets hard at times. I lost my second fight when I should have pulled out but that was problems with my training out of my hands I'm pretty sure frankies trainer is turning up and training him properly. Frankie. is a strange case I have always thought there was something missing with him. it is clear he is very talented and has great potential but he needs to get his mind right so hopefully he takes time to do so. he has let people down by pulling out but believe me no-one knows that more than Frankie and there is no-one that will be more disappointed than him so I think any anger towards him (if there is any) is uncalled for but the.fans do have a right to know in my opinion. to say boxing is not the most important thing as true as that may be is not as simple as you may think. I have gone through training camps and thought that there is nothing more important than fighting there is so much pressure on us fighters but we wouldn't have it any other way. I can completely understand any unusual behavior from a fighter as when you get low you get really low I can only explain it as depression it is awful feeling like there is no.way out because you are too worried to let people down and if you lose your career is as near as over (whether that be the case it feels that way) it is hard for someone who hasn't been through it to understand but that is why threads like this do more good than bad as it gives the supporters an insight into why a fighter feels a certain way so don't take it down let people talk about it and if anyone has any other insights into why a fighter may act a certain way then share it.

Pulling out when you're not 100% mentally is a smart move.

I would much rather a fighter pull out of a fight rather than go ahead when hes not right for whatever reason and get hurt. Its all very well to say hes letting fans down, and to an extent he has indeed, but 'fans' need to remember that fighters put their health on the line everytime they step through the ropes, both their longterm and shortterm health, and if something is not right then they should not fight!. Maybe if fwanks bills were a bit deeper then it wouldnt be such a catastrophe when the main fight falls through. As for Fwanks snide remark about Mitchell, whatever is in his water didnt do him much harm against John Murray. Frank really should look at his comments and remember what happened not too longago to Darren Sutherland, we are talking about human beings here, not robots.

This is the key. I fear with him having to spread his talent thin to make the 2 live dates per week we won'be often getting deep cards.
