Important fights for Australians coming up in 2011
I thought it was about that time to give a shout out to the fighters putting it on the line in future fights this year.
With an abundance of Title fights, state and National titles and just good matchups with up and comers it seemed fitting to have a thread to discuss the matchups and possible results as the majority a 50-50 fights.
October 19th
LT Middle; Mundine vs Alverez in Sydney for the Interim LT Middle regular WBA belt. I've got an upset here with Alverez winning.
Cruiserweight; Aloua 3-0-0 vs Hunter Sam 4-0-1 over 6 rounds. very even fight.
October 28th
Lt Heavy; Trent Broadhurst 7-0-0 vs Robert Berridge 11-0-1 over 8 rounds. Very even fight, with the winner moving on to bigger things.
Middle; Nathan Carrol 4-0-1 vs Leroy Brown 8-3-1 over 6 rounds. Very even fight
November 5th
Light; Michael Katsidis vs Ricky Burns for the interim WBO belt in Scotland. Katsidis by KO.
November 11th
Texas USA
LightMiddle; Frank LoPorto vs Austin Trout for the WBA Regular Title over 12. Best of luck to Frank, but a hard ask.
Melbourne
Lt Heavy Joel Casy 14-8-3 vs Manny Vlamis 10-2-0 for the PABA title. Casey by KO
November 12th England
Welterweight; Samuel Columban 20-3-0 vs Denton Vassell for the commonwealth strap over 12. Pickem.
November 18th
Feather; Billy Dib vs Albert Servidei 31-0-2 for the IBF title in Sydney. Don't know his opponent but a win for Dib
Same card a couple of decent prospect matchups
Melbourne
Middle; Sam Soliman vs Eromosell Albert for an IBF eliminator over 12. Sam by UD wide.
super bantamweight; Daniel Iannazzo 20-1-0 vs Mike Tawatchai 22-0-0 over 10 rounds. Pick em.
Cruiser; Brad Pitt 11-0-0 vs Victor Oganov 31-4 over 12 rounds. Pitt by KO.
South Africa November 23
Lt Welter; Steven Wills vs Kaizer Mabuza for the IBO strap over 12. Hard to get a win in Africa.
November 30th
Cruiserweight; Danny Green vs Krzysztof Wlodarczyk for the WBC belt in Perth. Got to go with Green via UD.
Super Feather; Will Tomlinson 17-0-1 vs Alan Herrera 27-3-0 for the Vacant IBO belt. Tomlinson via UD.
Cruiserweight; Cronje vs McCracken for a regional title over 12. Tough one to pick, But Cronje's power seems to do it for me.
December 3
Bantamweight; Vic Darchinyan vs Anselmo Moreno for the Sper WBA Bantam belt. Vic by KO.

Re: Important fights for Australians coming up in 2011
some good fights coming up! Dont know a whole lot about green and dibs opponents but the Italian appears to have a pretty thin resume. Would be a good win for billy on paper though. Greens fight is harder to pick. The guy is a big natural cruiser and green took a pasting last time out. Dunno might lean towards the pole. Ricky burns is a good boxer from what ive seen but appears to lack power, so its a pretty good style for katsidis who i also think will get the stoppage
Re: Important fights for Australians coming up in 2011
Dawson v Kalakoda 2 and Cronje v McCracken should be good as well.
I think the Dawson v Kalakoda may be for the vacant PABA, by I will stand corrected.

Re: Important fights for Australians coming up in 2011
Cronje v McCracken will be a great fight. Some fights i did miss, sorry.
There's some good names making there way back as well, I see De Mori making a return, i really liked the look of Steve Moxon he has a very fan friendly style and is in action again.
It's looking good for the sport.
I'm still wondering who's got November 18th booked for Fox...is it Dib's card and we get to see a title fight on fox, or do we get Barry Michaels really good line up?

Nice thread mate

Funny thing about Servidei, he is lowly rated but has never lost a fight. Held the EBU Featherweight title for a while.thunderfromdownunder wrote:some good fights coming up! A few extra fights added, and a couple that have disappeared.
2 Titles up for grabs with Lo Porto and Wills, and Colomban for the Commonwealth title.
Australia is certainly getting there share of shots atm, and some questions about where they're at in the careers should be answered.

It will be an opportunity for Dib to get used to the idea of being champ a little longer.
For mine, Dib is stronger at Super Feather and Lightweight, but he will have to face a mandortory soon and that doesn't look like a super fight by any stretch, given the current ratings. The best fighter ranked by the IBF comes in at 9 and thats Ponce De Leon. This is probably the best prep if he could win for a fight with John.

Good to see an Aussie fighting for a Commonwealth strap, but Colomban seems to have two fights in six days in two different countries I wonder if he will pull out of one?Hounddawg wrote:A few extra fights added, and a couple that have disappeared.

Congratulation Robert 'The Butcher' Berridge winning against Trent Broadhurst with a round5 KO
Re: Important fights for Australians coming up in 2011
Guys just a heads up, Fox will be televising live the Lo Porto v Trout fight, and the 18th card as well as the 19th Billy Dib world title fight.
3 live fight cards in 10 days, all my christmas's at once.

Re: Important fights for Australians coming up in 2011
He certainly has taking his chances with both hands has Robert, i meet him and the other night and must say that there's something defiantly special about him, and he's coming back to Aus,which is a really smart career move, as he said, there's no one left in NewZealand. Got to take your hat of to a bloke like that, and can't wait to see who's next...a converted fan!NZ Fighter wrote:Congratulation Robert 'The Butcher' Berridge winning against Trent Broadhurst with a round5 KO

I heard them say that about the Dib fight program but I would like to see Fox put it on their schedule. I have a feeling this could change.

In this division (Light Heavy) IMO I think New Zealand has the edge over the Australians.Hounddawg wrote:He certainly has taking his chances with both hands has Robert, i meet him and the other night and must say that there's something defiantly special about him, and he's coming back to Aus,which is a really smart career move, as he said, there's no one left in NewZealand. Good fights for him in New Zealand would be either Daniel McKinnon or Soul PowncabyHounddawg wrote:He certainly has taking his chances with both hands has Robert, i meet him and the other night and must say that there's something defiantly special about him, and he's coming back to Aus,which is a really smart career move, as he said, there's no one left in NewZealand. True they would be good fights. Im sure the money and exposure is alot better in Aussie tho.yid14 wrote:Good fights for him in New Zealand would be either Daniel McKinnon or Soul PowncabyHounddawg wrote:He certainly has taking his chances with both hands has Robert, i meet him and the other night and must say that there's something defiantly special about him, and he's coming back to Aus,which is a really smart career move, as he said, there's no one left in NewZealand. It's the judges that are the problem though.NZ Fighter wrote:True they would be good fights. I think Berridges style solves that problem
Re: Important fights for Australians coming up in 2011
Have you seen the Kerry Foley fight? I bet he wishes he'd gone all out for the k.o. and not left it to the judges. And even during the Broadhurst fight it was very scrappy and very hard to score with no clear good work winning rounds but two of the judges had it 4-0 to Broadhurst.NZ Fighter wrote:yid14 wrote:It's the judges that are the problem though.NZ Fighter wrote: True they would be good fights. Point taken. I agree with you on that one. That was a shocker on the judges side. Im sure he has learnt his lesson there. More rounds in a fight will work to Robs advantage to counter that problem as more rounds should = higher likelihood of a KO.yid14 wrote:Have you seen the Kerry Foley fight? Are you going to the ABA on the 18th? Apparantly he's not definatly on the bill but It looks a good one anyway.NZ Fighter wrote:Point taken. I agree with you on that one. Not according to Boxrec's Commonwealth rankings.NZ Fighter wrote:In this division (Light Heavy) IMO I think New Zealand has the edge over the Australians.Hounddawg wrote:He certainly has taking his chances with both hands has Robert, i meet him and the other night and must say that there's something defiantly special about him, and he's coming back to Aus,which is a really smart career move, as he said, there's no one left in NewZealand. Re: Important fights for Australians coming up in 2011
I was at the fight, in completely impartial to the fact that it was a great matchup and Berridge didn't win a round, pull your head in about Australian judges and stop looking for excuses. He lost the fight by deliberately elbowing his opponent and last time a checked that's a universallly recognized rule.
What about the Baff v Faiuva fight, the Kiwi judges thought it was a shut out to the Samoan and that was a load of absolute shittt, we're not whinging, Mark De mori got a draw after dominating FFS.
The best light Heavy's in this country which is the thinnist it's been in a deacade or more is Blake Caperello and shane McConville, to date they're undefeated and no one has layed claim to that mantle of being better than any of them. I've never changed my point of view on the matter that Blake and Shane are the 2 best and they're both very inexpierenced, when Berridge and co beat them then you can say that NZ is better, not before and certainly not now.
BroadHurst is a SuperMiddle who couldn't get fights at the weight so he moved up.....no excuses he got beat, but if Broadhurst kept his head, Berridge would have been dismissed as a sub par fighter with a punch. I love when you Kiwi's get caught up in the moment.

Impartial
And what are you talking about elbows? Lost the fight? Which fight are you talking about the one against foley where he knocked him down and dominated another round it could easily of been another 10-8 and he was nearly out on his feet. Or the Broadhurst fight where Broadhurst didn't dominate or clearly win any round. What would be interesting is to see what the scores would have been for the 5th round, surely they would have given it to Berridge (it's not 100% though) Maybe you should watch both fights again - with 2 eyes.
