If you were Scott Quigg...
...what would you do?

As good as he is, he's very young and I think he should try and get that Lonsdale belt. Must be incredible to have the best belt in boxing forever.
He's got loads of time.
Or should he forget it and just march on to European level, etc?

Re: If you were Scott Quigg...
i suppose if i was being businesslike i'd look at a couple more fights that present challenges but are winnable as i tried to step up to European and World Level, Monroe being one of them, like Booth great fighter, but watching him recently I would think Quigg had too much desire and would overwhelm him - but the one as a fan i'd love to see is Frampton as it's the sort of fight boxing needs - both are young enough that a defeat wouldn't halt their career (like DeGale / Groves) and could actually just leave room for a rematch if both go on to fulfil potential.
In some ways those domestic rivalries are better built early on to give them some history. Both have the tools to go to a decent level -we need those sort of fights , like DeGale v Groves, Clev v Bomber even Fury v Chisora I guess counts, happening to excite the UK Scene.

Re: If you were Scott Quigg...
Well belts are nice but they don't pay the bills unless you have some tasty domestic rivals.
Re: If you were Scott Quigg...
who would he chose for a voluntary i know sean hughes is back at super bantam then hell have a mandatory which i think will b frampton as monroe chasin another world title but he gets past hughes if he choses him and frampton has one left a voluntary there s his belt but alright sayin it boxing a funny job one puch its turned around
i c him beatin frampton not on that show alone but watchin the both of them
Re: If you were Scott Quigg...
Exactly my view mate. Gomez is right, of course, you've got to pay the bills. But inside a year he could have the Lonsdale outright!Cardiff-Lad1 wrote:Hes young enough to win the Lonsdale outright without missing out on any 'big' fights.
Best belt in boxing and unfortuntaely some boxers haven't been able to win the belt because they moved up to euro level too quickly. If that were me i'd be gutted :(

True, the best boxers always have that ability to identify their own weaknesses and work on them before taking on certain people rather than just jumping straight in and swingingMachoMan09 wrote:He needs to be realistic - and this applies to a lot of boxers. There is a school of thought that boxers should have a blind self-belief in their own ability, because if they let the thought of defeat enter their minds they are already halfway to being defeated. This notion is stupid, and in real war is what leads to badly led armies being destroyed when they could've lived to fight another day. I strongly believe that boxers should be more rational and attempt to identify their probable ceiling of achievement, in terms of both in-ring achievements and earning potential, and work from there. There's a lot to be said for realism.

If he got the Lonsdale by beating Frampton then Munroe, that would be class. But the belt shouldn't be a giveaway.

Agreed.Dan Dares wrote:If he got the Lonsdale by beating Frampton then Munroe, that would be class. But the belt shouldn't be a giveaway.
I'd rather they gave it up than cherrypick three easy defences to keep it outright.
If he's going to keep it, one of those has to be Frampton or Munroe, or Stuart Hall perhaps.
What we don't want in any instance is a promoter picking the weakest acceptable option and running with that x3. Like Kell Brook's reign for instance.

Re: If you were Scott Quigg...
The division is still pretty damn good domestically, and it would be a crying shame for him not to attempt to clean up before moving on, and lets face facts a tough early challenge will see him in much better stead down the line when the going gets tough (if he gets there) .
Going with the realism theme, ignoring the fight itself Booth was pretty good matchmaking, it was still a big risk fight and it paid off, it would be nice to see that approach continue.
Be cracking to see Jamie Mcdonnell step up to fight the winner of a Munroe/Frampton/Quigg fight winner.

Re: If you were Scott Quigg...
I'd imagine he will go in with Martin Ward or similar for 1st defence. Then I'd love to see him take the belt home for good with fights against Frampton and then Munroe.
Loads of fights out there for him. He should own the belt outright before he is 25 then world shot. Hatton should look at the road Brook is taking, could see Quigg maturing a little bit then dominating at a higher level.
He looked huge v Booth, would like to see him in with Munroe to see how he gets on.
He's a nice lad and seems grounded, I imagine Hattons will help him go on at the right pace.

I think those that advise Quigg would be well served to exercise caution. I know he marched straight through Booth BUT Booth is completely shot.Ian 'Mr' McNeilly wrote:Exactly my view mate. That come-ahead, Manchester pressure fighter style is regularly exposed at international level unless it becomes very well honed after time and with experience, a la Ricky Hatton. If Quigg gets moved up too quickly he will get beat. Munroe would take him school if that fight was made right now.
I'm personally looking forward to some major fights between Quigg, Frampton and Kid Galahad in years to come. All three of these guys have got the potential to get to world title level and there could be fantastic matches there ....
