floyd and his team say they want the pacman on may 5th 2012
on the scene
hmmm is manny fighting next week??? somebody cant handle being out of the spotlight.
floyd has had 2 years to do this fight , maybe he knows hes going to jail or something
i will believe the fight is on if manny team confirm what mayweather team has said , contacrts have been signed and both fighters and face to face in the middle of the ring waiting to fight

Manny has as much blame if not more.
Re: floyd and his team say they want the pacman on may 5th 2012
Manny has fulfilled all obligations set by the commission in which his fights take place.
Floyd on the other hand insists that he's the best fighter in history, despite not facing a top class, primed welterweight in seven years in the division.
If this fight doesn't happen it'll reflect very badly on Floyd, whereas Manny has gotten on with his career and easily surpassed him in a historical significance sense.
Even if it did happen and Floyd won, unless it's an annihilation Pacquiao will still rank higher.

Manny seems to be takg the route favoured by Oscar. Only fight 'dangerous' fighters when they have been beaten badly or outclassed. Margarito and Sugar Shane spring to mind.
Manny seems wary of the test. If nothing to hide he should submiot to this one stipulation and kick Floyds behind. But I do not think Manny believes he can beat him.

Pacquiao has fought everybody that has been put in front of him including boxers who are alot bigger. If the fight does happen it will all be on Mayweathers terms no doubt. I hope Manny beats him but like LeedsLad said even if Floyd wins I will still regard Pacquiao higher.
Re: floyd and his team say they want the pacman on may 5th 2012
Manny has come out of the whole testing issue looking pretty bad, an ugly smear on an otherwise incredible career.
It's only the fact that people Hate (capital H) Floyd that Manny has been let off the hook by a lot of people. They daren't criticise Pac in case they make Floyd look good!
Imagine just for a sec it was the other way round.. If Pac offered Floyd the fight and Floyd refused because it would involve random drug testing... How many people do you think would be out there fighting Floyd's corner and saying Manny is out of order.. I'll tell you: zero!

Shane Mosley might not have been at his very best when he fought Floyd, but he was still in the "top class" bracket.LeedsLad wrote:Manny has fulfilled all obligations set by the commission in which his fights take place.

If you question Mosley's "class" then surely all of Manny's opponents at 147 should have the same question marks. Cotto (mangled against Margarito the previous year, struggling with the weight), Clottey lost his previous fight and now Marquez not won at this weight.
Floyd beat the Lineal Champion at this weight, he also beat a former unified champion at the weight, a former belt holder at the weight, and beat a reigning champion at the weight in his last fight. NONE of these top class??

Re: floyd and his team say they want the pacman on may 5th 2012
Regardless of who he's fighting now, you can't ever say Manny took the Oscar style "easier" route - because for a while he was taking on every killer on the block - Barrera, Morales, Marquez etc - an amazing career, but for me, there's a definite shadow there now with the wriggling out of the drug test thing.
Re: floyd and his team say they want the pacman on may 5th 2012
Oh absolutely not (although I disagree with the easier route being called "Oscar" style - I'm sure Trinidad, Quartey, Vargas, JC Chavez, Whittikar, Mosley 2, Reulas, Hopkins, Mayweather, Molina etc etc etc were soft touches - win or lose against them, he still fought them)MightyWarrior wrote:Regardless of who he's fighting now, you can't ever say Manny took the Oscar style "easier" route - because for a while he was taking on every killer on the block - Barrera, Morales, Marquez etc - an amazing career, but for me, there's a definite shadow there now with the wriggling out of the drug test thing.
Just my point was over this school of thought that Floyd hasn't fought anyone at Welter. Had Floyd not fought Baldomir/Judah and fought the unproven Maragarito (untill Cotto, who did Marg beat that was so outstanding) then Floyd would have faced the same criticisms, simply because of who he is. Floyd cannot simply win with some people. He fights an aging world champion ranked #1 in the devision and he is criticised for fighting past it fighter, he fights a 24 year old champion coming off a career best win and he fights someone "never good enough". He simply cannot win.

The only impressive thing that Manny seems to have over Floyd is how he has come through the weight divisions so succesfully which ultimately is what the tests are all about. The only two fighters that i would have liked and still would like Floyd to face from that welterweight period a few years back are Cotto and Margarito. Floyd could face both guys at catch weight (150lbs) and have them on his record, because i have no doubt at all that he beats both of them comfortably. Then that equates to what Manny has done, apart from fighting Diaz, everything else Floyd has done. If Floyd then beat Martinez he would comfortably surpass what Manny has achieved bar the move through the weights which has been more extreme that Floyd's move through the weights. Don't forget Floyd beat at top rated De La Hoya, not a weight drained old version, Floyd beat an unbeaten Ricky Hatton, not the slightly scarred version. Floyd has beaten Mosley and Marquez as has Pacquaio. Clottey or Diaz is equivalent to Floyd facing Ortiz, game but not that great. Plus it also has to be said that Floyd hasn't lost and Manny has lost three times, though i don't give much credence to unbeaten fighting records in the main. Like i said earlier, manny's rise through the weights is steeper than Floyd's and Floyd hasn't faced Cotto and Margarito as Manny has, so i too feel that he should face those fighters, though i belive he would beat either comfortably. I belive that both will be seen as great all time fighters, but that Floyd will edge it because like it or not, he is a more glamorous figure and things like that seem to count as it did for instance if you compare the careers and fights of Ali and Joe Frazier. They both achieved the same things and it's difficult to seperate them apart from their fighting styles, but Ali had the greater PR, personality and style, hence he goes slightly above Frazier in the memory of the general public who watched them both fight.

Some interesting comments, but the ability to take George Foreman's punches or not is a major factor in seperating Ali and Frazier, plus Ali did win 2 of their encounters, faced Norton and just had a far longer career at the top.Quixall wrote:Why would Manny rank higher ?LeedsLad wrote:Manny has fulfilled all obligations set by the commission in which his fights take place.

However Stu, i feel that Ali lost that first fight to Norton and i still don't know how Foreman didn't conect with Ali in their fight. The rope a dope has gone into mythical legend these days, but a lot of it was luck aswell. If you get the chance to watch the fight again, it's unreal how Ali misses Georges punches by centimetres !!

Where is the proof that he didn't want to fight them ? or due you mean it was hear say and gossip ?maltesecharlie wrote:Its ok saying Mayweather would beat Margarito and Cotto now but at the time he did not want to fight them.
I personally think that Floyd would have been made for either Cotto or Margarito at any time in their careera, whether now or in a years time or 3 or 4 years back. I don't think that Floyd dodges any fighter, he has no need to with the skills set that has in his locker. Alot of things are involved in creating a fight with all the mangers involved, promotors and television companies, plus fighters want to retain their titles for longer to make more money against easier opposition and that applies to everyone, not just Floyd, but Cotto and Margarito too, even Pacquaio !!!! I don't think anyone with a half decent knowledge of boxing would ever believe that the styles of Margarito and Cotto at whatever stage in their careers, would seriously bother Floyd and i don't mean that in any disrepectful way to yourself mate.

Manny klost and won agaonst Morales. Arguably lost both to JMM. Manny's build needs to be looked at imo.

Yeah but had oscar beaten hopkins when they fought everyone would of been praising oscar to bits. Manny just hammred the de la hoya that was put in front of him to fight. Re: floyd and his team say they want the pacman on may 5th 2012
There is no proof. You will never have a fighter saying on camera that he did not want to box an opponent, its always gossip and here say. If you have a boxer going around saying he is the best pound for pound then he should fight the best and I don't think he wanted either fight especially Cotto. I think Mayweather is a great fighter but he always fights on his own terms or not at all, some people might say thats smart and for the record I don't think Pacquiao would beat him at Welterweight. It would just be nice to see the fight.
