James Toney : May have slimmed off, but still talks crap !!

Post by Quixall »

This is a video of Toney talking about Tyson, Mayweather, Pacquaio..................

Initially he seems calm and talks some sense !!

Then he asks him about Amir Khan and his sense starts to go downhill fast :DD

He doesn't even realise that he contadicts himself over his comments on Khan and Malignaggi

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=PkrQXknxLsw

I wonder if James knows that Benn beat Barkley, Khan beat Judah, Hamed beat Kelley, Honeyghan beat Curry, Lewis beat Holyfield, Tyson, Ruddock, Mercer, Morrison etc, Calzaghe beat Jones, Hopkins, Bruno beat McCall................................

Toney talks shit................A lot of the time

Him being a great fighter who has beaten a lot of great guys doesn't sudden validate him talking crap. He says that Khan is a "bum" and yet describes Malignaggi as a "good boxer" Then he goes on to say that there was only one great Mexican fighter  The guy is funny to listen to, but he fustrtates me because you can see he knows a lot about boxing and has an informed opinion to give, but he spoils it by giving opinions that are out of the ball park at times. I would agree with him that apart from Lewis we haven't produced an all time great fighter, but of the rest..................forget it

Just looking at his record, and knowing nothing about him how did he get a shot? He was criticising Darren Barker's world title shot in the video and gave one to Dell'Aquilla.
Aye, but the statement was that he'd never fought abroad, not whether it was a legitimate foe.

Dell'Aquilla's only previous loss was for the EBU to Kalam, he had won a few and was a run out fight for Toney as they were keeping him busy to keep him out of trouble.
I said I stand corrected, what I said was wrong.

But his opponent lends him no help in regards to his words though does it? He's just babbling, I get it. I like Toney, and I know he's very knowledgeable about the sport, he just gives his opinions like he's posting in the current scene.
Spot on mate :TU:

Hopefully a Lebedev hook will shut his pie-hole.

Yeah, he should be muted. He's a character, for sure, and the game needs less of them.

Toney's an ignorant man, but he always this way so if you watch an interview then he'll act exactly like James Toney. He's better in print or as a pundit on US fight shows.

A character for sure, shame he's an unlikeable one IMO sorry!

No need for sorry, he doesn't make it easy but if you watch that doc and see his dad then it goes some way. Plus Bill's on there talking boxing so well worth a look.

I'd say Toney has a chip on each shoulder but he ate them so it's no longer true. Sad thing is that he slimmed way down to 160lb after his footballing days and is a natural athlete, should have turned over at 175 in my opinion.

One of the the few natual athletes to pick up real boxing skills during the early days of his career, difference there to see between some of his earlier fights.
I will watch the docu, later on. Outside of the ring, post fight etc not seen much of him

He did a hell of a lot before the whole 'drug cheat' thing.

Probably not, but we've no way of knowing when or for how long he was. Makes no odds to me though, he's a joy to watch (even if he is a bit of a gobshite).

I must be a boring old fart, because to me, taking steroids to improve how much brain damage you inflict on someone else is unforgivable.

Keith, we've all got man-crushes. Say something about Ricardo Lopez or JMM & I'll bluster like a mofo. Talk smack about Nishioka-san & see how quickly Counter-Puncher annihilates you. Diss Erik Morales & Saadoffthedeck will call your mother a whore. Rip into Stevie Molitor & TML will get his g-string in a twist.

Terry's man-crush is James Toney. Leave it alone mate. Terence will as likely admit that Toney ever did anything wrong as admit that Pink Floyd are boring as fvck, or you will concede that the Jam only had five good songs.

Looking over at the "Floyd wants PacMan May 2012" thread, it appears that stujones's man-crush is a certain Mr. Oscar De La Hoya.

We should get a sticky made up with all our man-crushes listed, so that newcomers & stupid people can look it up & know whether or not we're being pudenda about a particular issue or whether we're in love & just talking shite.

Yes mate, I think the drugs were lose-weight ones & ultra-recovery from injury ones, also brought about by being fat as a hog, rather than take them turn me into The Hulk ones like Mosley & Vargas were on.

On that note, looking at the weigh-in, I cannot quite believe my fvcking eyes looking at Toney. He's weighed in at what, fourteen stone three? I salute the fella's dedication, win or lose. As someone else said, ten years ago Toney would've eaten Lebedev (who wouldn't've lived with the Kazakh Tiger, fer instance), but now? I don't know. The last image I have of him is of him rolling around a cage with a muscular bald chap; they appeared to be locked in some kind of fierce embrace. It looked like the bald dude was trying to sexually assault a particularly fat seal. This is why I cannot for certain ascertain whether or not he can beat Lebedev, because now when I think about him, I see that poor seal.

S'gonna be fun watching him try, though I can't help wishing he was in this shape five years ago.

Just watched highlights of Toney v Iran Barklay, jesus what a clinic. Brutal stuff, Iran could barely land a glove on him either.

With hindsight too, his performance against Holyfield was absolutely mesmeric. Nobody else has EVER done that to Vander, before or since. Toney ripped him to pieces.

James, don't you think that was a rather shop soiled Holyfield that Toney beat ?

Do you think Toney would have been able to do that to the Holyfield that faced Bowe and Lewis ?

Of course, but Holyfield was still a hell of a lot nearer his prime, than he is now, and nobody has come close to battering him like that since.

In retrospect, Holyfield wasn't THAT far gone when he faced Toney.

My favourite Terry man crush would have to be Jermain Taylor. It was quite sad to see so many hopes and dreams dashed so quickly

:TU: Always have maintained that I will typically defend the in ring performances and record of both Oscar and Tyson (except for the fouling antics of Tyson) when in debates. I especially find it bizarre when people will condem Oscar's resume and suggest he took easy options. I would hope I aint the only that finds it wrong when people claim the only "greats" or top class dangerous foes Oscar took on were shot fighters who had recently took batterings.

He aint the greatest of all time, far from it. Unlucky in some of his fights yes, but I really do believe if we are going to question the resume of who Oscar fought - then no fighter is safe from criticism. Only Pacquiao comes close as an active fighter in matching the resume of names (Froch/Ward is fast tracking their way there also).

As for Lights out, anyone with a man crush on him should not want to see him lose more of his marbles and continue. He'll always be entertaining but his speech is a massive concern and his inconsistencies in what he was saying.... only fighters from the states are any good, yet he doesn't have a bad word about Pacquiao.

Exactly, I think a lot of people disregard that fight by saying that Holyfield was past it but it was EIGHT years ago and as you say Evander was never handled like that before or since. Toney massacred him that night, and I've always thought it was one of the best punch perfect displays in modern times. That night proved a motivated Toney is one of best of his generation and by losing 50 odd pounds he's definitely motivated for this, but the question is, is it too late today at 43!?
