MUST WATCH FANS FIGHT - Alfredo Angulo vs James Kirkland

Post by exittored »

I know most of you already know about this but it's one of those fights that British fight fans should try and watch live rather then the next day.

It may not be the match-up it was once heralded as being a year or so ago when they were both still unbeaten but for me it's got that Hagler-Hearns vibe about it and is a can't miss action fight between two of the most exciting hard punching fighters around. Plus the undercard features a british fighter in Craig McEwan vs Peter Quillin at Middle which should be a cool fight too.

Any thoughts, are British fans looking forward to Angulo vs Kirkland the same way i am?

Its the type of fight that either boxer could win by KO at any moment. Kirkland really lands with power, but his chin is a bit wobbly as well, he can take Angulo out with 1 shot, but i think Alfredo Angulo will come through to win by KO inside of 5 rounds

Angulo has got to be the big favorite here: he's shown a much better chin, against very heavy hitters like Joel Julio and Cintron, and just to tip it a bit more in his favour, it's on home turf.
The big punching Kirkland had shown a less than iron chin, even before he was blown away by the Japanese fighter. Reminds a bit of Nigel Benn, except Benn would usually find a get out of jail punch.

Strange fight to make for a hot property like Kirkland - he'll be near finished if he's KO'd again, which looks the likely result here.

Great fight though, because he still has the puncher's chance, and it's guaranteed excitement.

I was thinking it a an odd choice for Kirkland as well, but then i thought maybe his management team are having a hard time dealing with this guy, he has some dodgy background on him. So they thought lets see what happens against a tough boxer again, and if he loses they can wash their hands of him

Yeah that's what I thought too - he's been caught with a gun, while on parole, or something daft like that. I guess this fight tells them: is this guy really worth carrying on with ?

All Angulo has to do is back Kirkland up and the fight is pretty much over.

He ought to be banging him out inside three rounds.

Should be a good fight.

Not too fussed about picking a winner, as both like to mix it up.

Good analysis there, i can definately see the Nigel Benn comparison although Kirkland hasn't done anything on the level of him yet.

Fair enough but i like my boxing live and this one is definately worth staying up for plus have a good quality stream to watch it with too seeing as it's not being broadcast live in the UK.

came up at 1pm on the Sky Schedule when I checked about 30 minutes ago. Set to record, though I'll be up early enough to check if it changes back to 10am.

Well both fighters have tasted the canvas in the first round, your prediction of a gun slinger type fight was spot on.

Definately although round 6 of Ortiz vs Berto was pretty awesome too. I would like to see a rematch and would still pick Angulo, think he looked like he under trained expecting a quick blow out wheras you know Kirkland trained like a beast and that's what won him the fight in the end and the stoppage was just at the right time.

Wow! What a fight! I hope Angulo is alright. He might not be the same after that.
