Really impressive finish from Groves. Had to feel a bit for Smith, as the heart was willing, but the body so clearly wasn't. Think retirement may beckon as he's a proud man and would be hard to come to terms with the fact that based on recent evidence he's a domestic gatekeeper and nothing more.

I've never thought of Smith like that, he seems an ok guy from what i've seen and heard
He always comes across as arrogant and if you question him or disagree he gets mouthy and arsey. He likes to dish it out but can't take it...as we saw tonight :OhYes:

Indeed. Smith is actually a fairly high profile DJ in Liverpool and by all accounts earns good money doing it so he may not be tempted to remain at British title level. If he does remain he needs to get back down at middleweight.

I was going to give it 3 rounds before legging it for my last train, so the quick finish was most welcome.

Surely the thousands of people relying on public transport could be treated with a bit of consideration ?

Don't know why it was on so late. Some of the other mismatch fights should been on last!

Smith's already been good on TV. iamasadlittleboy's still sore that an interview request for his site was turned down and he let his feelings be known in a few pieces of 'writing'. It is good to have inspiration but if everyone with access to a blog let rip when an interview request was turned down, and for legitimate reasons, then there would barely be a positive word said about many fighters.
Yeah thats obviously the only I think reason he's a dick...it's nothing to do with the stupid stuff he says..."Groves doesn't hit as hard as he thinks he does", "DeGale is an idiot"...so he's been beaten by an idiot and by a guy who doesn't punch very hard...He'd be better off keeping his mouth shut before fights and letting his fists do the talking.

He also got mouthy with a number of people when they felt that Quigley beat him and made excuses for his loss to Bendall (drained at the weight apparently). Personally I like a fighter to accept his losses were what they are. Oh and he also claimed some one was progressing too slowly with their career...and yet in over 30 fights never mixed it with European level fighters. He has spent years feasting on national level fighters and yet talking as if he was on the way to the top.

I prefer fighters who do their talking in the ring than out of it, I prefer fighters who don't make excuses, I prefer fighters who practise what they preach and I prefer fighters who don't think they are bigger than they are...

But hey if you think it was just the request for a website I have a minor working relationship for then you MUST be right.

He quit the dj'ing a year or two ago to concentrate on boxing. Pretty sure he'd easily get gigs again tho if he did retire.

So the fact that your Smith baiting blogs started to appear immediately after he turned down an interview request for a minor website was pure coincidence and you were in fact planning to phone him and vent your spleen during the interview. Thanks for clearing that one up.
I didn't ask for an interview and I wouldn't have been the one conducting it, so I don't know why I'd have phoned him. My Smith blogs came after he'd called someone a drunk, he seemed to be fine with talking crap about people...yet he moaned when someone did it back. He's a hypocrite.

Yes you did. Then you went postal after it was pointed out that your writing was a bit off. I think you'll find that most professional fighters would take umbrage to a blog that asked if they had picked up brain damage, they're funny like that.
Again wrong it wasn't me that asked, it was the admin of that sight, I have moderator power on the forum and have linked the RSS feed to my twitter. I occasionally (though rarely) add stuff to the site. I never asked if they had picked up brain damage, i merely pointed out that his reply for being asked for an interview was “as for PR if that's kidding the bollocks off loyal fans and sugar coating things then yes, it's not my strong point.” If thats a reply to being asked for an interview he really has no idea what "suger coating means" or what an interview entails, I'd worry about his brain cell count if he thinks being asked for an interview is sugar coating anything.

As previously said I've barely written anything for that site, and spent much more time writing for other sites so whilst my writing may well be naff, it's hardly found on the site you think it's on.

"If he honestly feels that's sugar coating, then it's a shame that he's taken so many to the head that he's showing signs of brain damage or lack of comprehension skills."

An either or, maybe it's just his comprehension skills, he doesn't seem very bright talking down Groves, if he's win he's beaten someone "who isn't as good as people think he is", but when Groves decks him "he's been beaten by someone who doesn't punch as hard as he thinks he does"...
