Anyone know what happend to this Welsh Light Heavy/Super Middle fringe domestic contendor. He hasn't fought in 3 years so I assume he has retired but he is only 30 now and was certainly a crowd pleaser. Despite losing to Oakey, I would have tipped Davies in the rematch - he really did give him hell.

Anyone know of his whereabouts, I hope he is okay.

Davies v Oboh was one of the few domestic light-heavy matches I can recall looking forward to.

Why isn`t the Welsh title fought for more often?
I`m sure there are enough Welsh fighters out there and the belt isn`t that bad to look at, and with the English title being a step down from the British I`m sure with more interest the Welsh could hold a little sway, and its got to mean more than holding a WBU,IBC, IBO bauble, I mean a Welsh vest is what all Welsh amateurs dream of wearing so why not the pro belt.

I think that might be the problem, I'm not sure there are enough of them. I'm trying to think of another Welsh light-heavy that Davies could have fought, and I'm drawing a blank.

I`m sure if the title was given more recognition more fighters would claim a Welsh connection, remember Vinny Jones :P

But I`m sure in that case they would go the Michael Owen route and follow their English lines

so I guess we`re back to square one

I think that is really what the Celtic title should be for, I made a thread about the Celtic title a few months back.

Fully agree with the sentiment of your post, it's a real shame that the Welsh title is not contested much these days.

Unfortunately, boxers get more exposure when holding one of those fake 'world' belts than they would get holding a Welsh title.

A friend of mine won the Welsh title in 1987, and as far as I know it was actualy the last time that title at that specific weight was fought for.

Two years ago I enquired with the BBBofC about supplying me with a list of all the boxers who have held a Welsh title, which I was going to add to my web site. They couldn't help me so I gave the idea up.

Even if I had been able to obtain a list it would have meant a lot of typing to enter all the title winners - then doing nothing for a few years until the next title fight. :( Having said that, I would still like to do it, if possible. Anyone got any ideas of how I could find out the names of all Welsh title winners (at all weights)?

I too looked for a list of winners, sadly there does not appear to be a list anywhere.

And in all fairness I don`t think it would take that long to type the list up, I don`t think it was ever that popular

Pre-war it was very popular, but post-war not so.

Davies was excellent to watch. Strong, fast and skilled he had plenty going for him.

The main ingredient missing from his arsenal was the mental will power. Over the championship course, I'd pick Oakey over Davies 10 times out of 10 for that very reason. When the going got very tough, he did sometimes cave in mentally. Still a really good fighter though.

Nathan Sting would be an ideal opponent for Davies to contest the Welsh title. I'd say Chris would be a couple of six rounders first though.....and more importantly re-appear on the boxng scene!
