Robin Reids chances?
Robin Reids chances?
Re-looking at the fight I don`t see it going the distance.
Lacy as big a puncher as his record suggests I feel is just too crude and no matter how I look at it I just don`t see him getting away with swarming at Reid with his big hooks.
But if he can swarm at Reid I see Reid quitting, with some injury..shoulder etc...
Reid is at his best when he can counter at a crude type like this, and I just see him cutting up Lacy to get a stoppage, Reid is too lazy to get a full KO but I just feel he gets some type of stoppage on Lacy.
Either way I don`t see Lacy getting it on points and I don`t think Reid works enough to get the decision either....putting my neck out, but I go with Reid getting an injury stoppage.

Work rate is the key to the fight i think, Reid's is practically none existant these days while Lacy no matter how crude throws lots of leather. I see Reid having successes but Lacy simply throwing more and outworking him to a unanimous decision. Reid looked poor in his last outing versus Magee and it was Magee's inability to hold Reid's big shots that cost him rather than Reid's slick work.
Don't get me wrong i feel the Reid that travelled to Italy all those years ago to take Nardiello's title would have beaten Lacy convincingly but not the Reid of today. His solid chin and big right hand always make the fight interesting though and one thing to note is that Reid has always found success counterpunching off come forward fighters which Lacy is...it was slick boxers and movers that gave him the trouble which Lacy isn't.

I'd have to go for Lacey on points for this one, Reid has the chance if he can land a big right hand, but Lacey seems to have a good chin on him.
Reid isn't busy enough to steal rounds, and the fight is in lacey's home territory, so i can't see Reid being scored close rounds.
Is this fight on TV over here?

The facts point to a Lacy UD, but I fancy Reids chances in this (I've had a small wager on him). As Steve has said Lacys come forward style will suit Robins counter punching.
I've not seen that much of Lacy, has his chin been tested? because you can bet your bottom dollar that Reid will land some heavy blows.
From interviews that I have seen on TV and read, Robin is very fired up for this one especially with a Calzaghe rematch possibly on the cards for the winner.

Nonsese. Reid is a counter puncher, not a pressure fighter. Sheika is a face first brawler who tightended up his boxing against Lacy to give him some big problems.Coconut wrote:I can see Lacy winning the match but Reid winning the fight, if that makes sense. Reid's going to be in Lacy's face and if Sheika can unsettle him then Reid's going to have no bother. But the higher volume, flashier shots of Lacy will see him through on the cards, rightly or wrongly.
Lacy will have learned from that fight, and his effort against Vanderpool showed his strengths. He managed to draw Syd into a banging match after losing the early rounds, and bashed him up.
I would love to see Robin win, and give him a shot, but the fact is he's on Lacy's home turf, and Lacy's style is popular with judges who like to award aggression, effective or not.
Reid will start well, maybe win the first few, but Lacy's workrate will prove the difference. Lacy W12

In nearly all of the predictions we have mentioned Reids workrate as the major weakness for him, and i cannot see him improving it at this late stage of his career.
Lacey may be a bit crude the way he throws his shots so Reid may have some sucess in catching him with counters, but it won't be enough.
I'd love Robin Reid to prove me wrong, but i can't see it happening

Reids experience will keep him in there but Lacy may just be more ambitious and fresh.Max Molyneux wrote:Didn't people say the same when Hatton fought Tyszu and he proved him worng. I too first thought Reid could and would do it but just like the Hatton v Tszu match-up you just got to take a step back and look at it properly and weigh up the real facts.
Lacy wins either TKO or rtd late on.
I give Robin a decent chance, I call it 60:40 in Lacy's favour.
Cannot say I am convinced about either fighter. Never rated Reid highly, I scored the Calzaghe fight for Reid but Joe was so bad that night that if Reid was that good it shouldn't even be debated now.
Lacy hasn't looked like a particularly brilliant champion, he was losing vs Vanderpol and looked average against the average Sheika - so Reid, who is decent but no great, has a chance.
Its a good learning fight for Lacy - if Lacy wins this one I think he will be a much better (and more confident) fighter because of it.

99% sure that this is true. Not only that but hard to remember him being in trouble in his pro career.mickeybeard wrote:Can someone confirm: has Reid has never been knocked down in his pro career, or am I going mad?
We do go on about Wayne McCullough's chin as the best P4P - I would have Robin at number 2.

Reid's not the distance fighter he was. He still likes to counter but he works a lot closer. In this respect he is way more skilled than Sheika who, as you pointed out, is a bit basic.
If Reid sits on the outside then he's in Lacy's comfort zone. If he takes it inside to make it a Magee-style fight then he'll play havoc with Lacy.
Your second-to-last paragraph is pretty much what I think will happen.

Don't rate Lacy and consider him an manufactured "champ" who was handed title on a plate and is gonna get exposed big time as soon as he steps up to real championship level.
That'll be Calzaghe, though I thought Joe looked to have slipped a lot last time out....not sure his legs are 100% there, these days.
But I don't believe Reid is the man to do it. He seems to be forever whinging these days - and already seems to have an excuse ready for under performing this time ( the yanks didn't treat me right! It did my head in..etc etc )
I reckon Lacy outworks a one paced Reid for an easy points win.

Style and talentwise I think Reid has the tools to win this one....
However, like others have already said it all depends on how much the Runcorn fighter has left and he MUST increase his workrate otherwise Lacys volume of punches will influence the ringside judges, wether those punches are effective or not.
My heart say Reid but my head says Lacy WPTS12.

Sure I read somewhere Reid's never been put down amateur or pro. He's a better fighter than he's been given credit for - the Wharton win was a great counter-punching display. He's a good guy too. He has an ego but in a nice way and I've always found him pretty unassuming. I remember going to his house with a girl from work and him taking us into a room to show us some photos he'd had done. It was like that scene from Partidge with the stalker fan. The walls were covered with pictures of Robin oiled up - his modesty covered by the WBC belt. My colleague didn't know where to look. Hope he does it. Never forget Darkie going berzerk "And Robin Reid! In Italy! Away from home! Against the odds etc... If he gets a good start he's a pretty stubborn individual, but still long odds you'd think.
I don't give Reid any more than a punchers chance and Robin does thump hard.
Lacy is very fresh and eager to makes waves. I can see Jeff getting past almost anything Reid can bring to the table. If Reid does pull it off, it would have to rate as career best win for him. Lacy appears far more sturdy and consistent than Vincenzo Nardielo for example.
