There are some very interesting points on this thread and I find myself at loggerheads!, yes I've enjoyed the output of the allegedly channel so far and the idea of a channel dedicated to boxing really appeals to me but it makes some sense that a subscription to allegedly could serve to marginalise the sport even further....
To establish itself the channel needs an aggressive marketing plan , I only found out about the channel from reading here and on Twitter and they need consistent cards, which deliver as borefests only put off casuals from the sport.

Sky's have had some great domestic fights but they have being missing out on some big internationals which they would have in the past, They must have shown Pacs last six fights and as many of PBF'S so to miss out Pac v Marquez is a real pisser, and Ortiz- Mayweather when it could lead to Sky's biggest PPV in it's history is crazy.

I`m not totally convinced by allegedly as yet.
When a certain promoter took his guys to Sky in the early days - he provided some excellent shows initially .... then for far too long he served up a shameful amount of shows that were not worthy of time spent watching them :(
And I cannot forget about Buncy`s time with the BBC and the whole Audley farce either ...

So its hard to trust both guys intergrity again ..

I`m in two minds. One says support the station that will in turn support the boxers and the game ..
Another says .. they`ll take you for a mug again ..

decisions-decisions :-?

For a professional Lillis is talking a lot of crap when he's on. I'm a lil shocked that Bunce, when he was on fighting talking a few weeks back, was talking about all the papers he's worked for that have gone down the drain...yet he didn't (if I remember rightly) didn't mention allegedly, neither did Rawling last week. Fighting Talk has a decent audience so slip the channel name in next time guys!

The question here is whether the tail was wagging the dog or not - That SKY have subsequently stopped their PPV model is due to some degree to this.

Eh? It was PPV. So why big up Sky's coverage of best versus best with a fight that wouldn't happen now because it was only made on PPV?

Do you believe a TV fee of £60-£80,000 could have made that fight? No, neither do I.
It was PPV but who forced their hand?

So you're saying that a company like SKY and a promoter like FW can't come up with more than 80k without the aid of PPV? Do me a favour.

Those are the kind of fees they pay now - and that's the top end. Next to no overseas writes either.

Plus you've got 10 fights to pay for, the arena, all the staff that put the promotions on and costs for that, plus I would imagine that the promoter would hope to make a profit. Unless you believe a promoter should be happy to lose money on their biggest promotions? In which case, who would be a promoter?

Besides which, both Groves and DeGale would have been on nearly £100,000, plus Cleverly, plus the late world title sub. Expensive bill

Effing stoopid decision to start subs on the 31st November. 4 weeks before Chrimbo, not too many fights on. Koontz (who is a shite author by the way). People who can't now afford it due to Christmas, or who don't think it's worth it due to the Christman slump in action might well forget about this channel or think much less of them, like I do, when the action picks up or when their kids stop being selfish bastards :P. And by people, I mean people who are aware of the channel, but don't check the schedule or post on sites to keep updated.

Silly.

And the way I see it, allegedly seems to be looking for ONE big show a month, with that one show being propped up by nonsense.

Perhaps I am too cyanical?

I did the same. The offer was on Twitter. I emailed them about it 3 weeks ago. No reply. Ominous.

they really should have went all out to get one of the big US PPVs as the hook for subscribing - all the big scraps in December are on other channels so no need for it

Surely it's no coincidence that the first show after encryption is Cotto-Margarito II and Murray-Rios, arguably the biggest night of boxing they've shown so far.

There's no point me saying I won't subscribe, cos I know that come the evening of December 3rd I'll have an itchy red-button finger.

Does anyone subscribe to Premier Sports? What night do they run the Hard Knocks shows and are they regular? Can't get that channel over here.

Interesting Khan back on Sky perhaps they start showing Golden Boy shows again. I notice the Degale and Groves bill on a Friday rather than Saturday night. Thought Warren did not like putting big shows on a Friday night.

Essentially Premier Sports are Setanta in other guise, but off course without the same boxing deals as the "old" Setanta.

They ran their original Hard knock show on a Saturday, and I believe they will showcase the next 6 Hard Knocks shows - issue is, when is the next one? Spencer Fearon said before the end of the year if I am not mistaken - but I aint seen nothing.

They also have a deal to show Gary Shaw Promotions fights live (so the Shobox shows that are promoted by Shaw) - and they have been good to their word - but it is pretty sporadic. I think there are two more shows before the end of the year (one this weekend).

I think allegedly has hit them for 6 in all honesty - they used to get deals on a fight by fight basis quite regularly - Saurland, HBO etc.... but now it seems allegedly has got these tied up.

I'm going to give Premier another 6 months, as I do believe they have a geniune interest in showing boxing but I think allegedly and especially Primetime (cause of the Channel 5 link also) have put some massive spanners in the works. They do seem to listen to boxing fans on their facebook.

Not sure where Prime Time sit now that Khan has gone back to Sky. Is that an admission by Team Khan that the PPV grass is not always greener on the other side? For all their big talk about huge numbers in the build up to the Judah fight, to go back to Sky on a non-PPV basis is backing down on a grand scale.

whose signing up to allegedly?whats skys boxing plans?

Post by mahatma »

so after the free period is over at the end of this month its a tenner a month.
Ive enjoyed the shows but pay 42 to sky each month, im impressed that sky has scrapped the pay per view because that was never fair was it?
Wondered whether anyone knew skys med/long termplans were are they going to step up and compete against allegedly,do nothing or wind it down- hope allegedly dont go down the road of pay per view for single big fights- can anyone shed any light on these issues so we as subscibers can make an informed decision.

Not on Virgin yet! The December schedule apart from Murray fight night does not look great. Degale fight on 9th does not look good. Then on Dec 16th Ormond v Carl Johansson. I think I wait until the new year.
