Ali is facing Bowe who is ranked 6th by the WBA. Surely this should count towards unification?tzyuforever wrote:I don't have a problem not counting these 3 weeks towards unification if that's the consensus.
I don't think we'll see a true unification fight though by the end of the season.

Any managed fighter is eligible in weeks 28-30, even coming off a loss or draw.BarryWashington wrote:jimmy young came off a draw in week 28. he's eligible for a title shot in week 29 right?
Re: Weeks 28-30 - Open Title Shots
We all settled on these open title fights not contributing towards unification eligibility?
It'd be scandalous for Louis to be able to unify after his farcical defences.

Re: Weeks 28-30 - Open Title Shots
"Farcical" you say? Because Louis defended against a lightly regarded fighter like David Haye?jBacca wrote:It'd be scandalous for Louis to be able to unify after his farcical defences.
Then all things being equal, the same viewpoint must be taken when looking at the other World Champions:
Larry Holmes defended against Riddick Bowe (another lightly regarded fighter)
Muhammad Ali defended against Young Stribling (who by now, is infamous as being a big-time choker in title fights)
Rocky Marciano defended against David Tua (a lightly regarded fighter)
We've all done it, and you have yourself Jbacca, you admitted before that during Dempsey's firt title reign you were giving him less challenging fights.
What's good for the goose, is good for the gander and all that.
Re: Weeks 28-30 - Open Title Shots
Criticism of The Open Title Shots weeks:
(please note that this is not a personal attack on anyone - this is a bold attempt and settling this debate once and for all)
Our nole Commish came up with this idea to give lower ranked fighters a shot at glory. This was an innovative concept where challengers were not just from the upper echylons of the rankings but even the unranked contenders could get in there.
With this being in place boxers found themelves receiving their first world title shots: (Haye, Moore, Tua, Braddock)
Recently Don Krease Productions has come under a lot of scorn for meeting the above criteria and the question I pose to you all is:
What is a World Champion supposed to do?
The Open Title shots are their for lowly ranked fighters to be given title shots & the new guys getting their only chances at world title glory.
But when these things happen their is a public outcry. Now if any of the World Champions consistently defended against top 10 opposition (not that any of them did, notably) then:
WHAT WOULD EB THE POINT OF OPEN TITLE SHOT WEEKS?
And so now with this "damned if you do, damned if you don't" attitude - it has soured the appeal of open title shot weeks. And I propse to cancel them for next seaosn.

Louis is not a champion....he simply wears a belt while running from THE ROCK. Once again this week you had your man run.
There is only one champion.......and we all know who that is.

OR we both know that Louis vs Marciano is signed for Week 31 after discussions between us.BoxBuzz wrote:Louis is not a champion....he simply wears a belt while running from THE ROCK. Once again this week you had your man run.
I assume you mean Dempsey or Ali? One has beat the best opposition & the other is the MDT Champion.BoxBuzz wrote:There is only one champion.......and we all know who that is.
It couldn't be the pebble because he has refused to fight mandatory challengers in the past.

You're choices are farcical. You have one of the top two fighters here but you gift shots to a complete noob who hasn't been here for more than two weeks. Then you grant Norton a fight. Ridiculous. Do you think these fights should count as eligible defences?
Stribling has already beat Ali and they had scores to settle. Good choice of fight.
Holmes v Bowe is a decent enough match-up. Bowe has a few good scalps. Plus, his manager is deserving.
Marciano v Tua is naff, but that's Buzz and it's what we come to expect. Do you want to be categorized with Buzz?
Defend yourself all you want, but don't bring my feats into it. My opponents have always been ranked and I've also gone on to build the best resume.
Re: Weeks 28-30 - Open Title Shots
Stribling has had 7 title fights.
4 losses from injury (3 cuts & one broken hand)
2 Split decisions
1 legit stoppage (way back in week 8 in his very attempt)
Hardly ''choking''

Re: Weeks 28-30 - Open Title Shots
Tyson's more of a choker than Stribling. Unlike Stribling, you'd expect Tyson to win plenty of title fights. So far he's failed in three title attempts, and lost the title in his first defence another three times.
Re: Weeks 28-30 - Open Title Shots
Whilst Bowe isn't top level, he is much much better than Haye. The same Hsaye who Ron Lyle put on the canvas 4/5 times in his last fight.Crease wrote:"Farcical" you say? The same Bowe who KO'd Norton in about 30 seconds the last time they fought. The same Norton who is your defence this week.
You're poor Crease, whichever way you look at it. 2x title bouts for Techno and one for yourself in 3 weeks.
Re: Weeks 28-30 - Open Title Shots
^^^^You got owned, Crease.
Re: Weeks 28-30 - Open Title Shots
This week Ali is facing Jeanette who is a Top 10 ranked competitor. Surely this should count towards his unification tally?

I assume the rule will be true for the Marciano Wills affair as well.
THE ROCK is looking forward to a date with a certain wigger should he get past Wills this week.
