If you're using that logic I'd have to say boxing was inferior if someone can come from nowhere and challenge the best boxers in the world.

If junior is half the showman his dad is I can't wait to see him. Certainly sounds like he has the skills, and if he's inherited his chin and work ethic he's gonna be a hell of a prospect.

One thing I find odd about boxing compared to other sports.... Plenty of guys who have not been in the sport that long do really well (comparatively) - EG Curtis Woodhouse, Chavez Jnr (and all the other Juniors - Vasquez, Sanchez etc), Anthony Mundine, poss Eubank Junior....

You can't imagine anyone taking up EG football at 19 and being premiership class. I wonder why this is... Is it because fewer people box so one can get further easier, is it because boxing is diffrenet to other sports as it involves more factors than simple skill (Eg heart, toughness), is boxing more basic than other sports, IE is about primitive attributes inherent in most men (EG fighting - most men have been in a fight and are mindful of fighting in a way you wouldn't be about tennis.)

Maybe it's all three. But the reality that Curtis Woodhouse who had no amateur experience can be very competitive with Gavin; a world champ and a guy who has prob boxed since he can walk suggests boxing is different (maybe superior?) to other sports

Perhaps its because fighting is something that all humans have some instinct for, boxing is related to primitive survival instincts, everyone knows how to punch, even toddlers do it.

Can anyone tell me about what type of amateur career he had? All I know is that while he was in the US he won the Nevada State Golden Gloves but lost in the first round of the nationals.

Apparently he was 24-2 as an amateur. I watched one of his amateur fights on youtube and he looked decent.

Eubank Jr got dropped heavily in his penultimate amateur fight by Nathan DeCastro - and it was a heavy knockdown.

On a side note, I'm dissapointed Channel 5 are not showing the English welterweight title fight between James Flinn and Adil Anwar, which is a 50/50 affair. I know Eubank has the name but we already know he's going to win, don't we?

There was nothing in that knock down, the angle is not great but his 'recovery' tells me a lot, that it was more of a slip/balance thing than anything else.

Eubank Jr certainly looks good. Who's training him now?

Comments like that damage the sport and it confuses non-boxing people, I've spent too long explaining to non-boxing friends why people would say things like this.

Good luck to the lad and his dad was my hero as a kid.

One thing though, I have always been dubious of amateurs who seemed to move about a lot, entering certain tournaments etc. Barry McGuigans boy seemed to pick and choose where he fought as an am.

Sounds like young chris has been getting top sparring for some time though.

Decent promo going on in the show for Eubank. Terrestrial boxing needs more than one boxer to follow to grow.
