manny cant close the gap anymore

Post by boxerbob »

in his last 2 fights pacquaio has been very passive , vs mosley although he dominated the fight he didnt have the same energy especially in his legs to get close enough to land major damage.

tonight was the same , he was to wary to land punches , simply in many round he never got close enough.

if he is to fight mayweather then id make mayweather favorite now , before these 2 fights i had pacquaio winning but now i think time , age and hard wars have caught up with manny

damn that fight should have been 2-3 years ago....could floyd have done a leanord vs hagler and wait till the time is right???

i scored the fight 114-114 watched the fight on an hbo stream who i felt were very biased towards manny , ledderman had it 116-112 manny...i cant see it honestly....hbo did show punchstats and in most rounds manny was out landing marquez although marquez was more accurate and conservative with his punches.

i will watch the fight again as my stream wasnt the best , it was a fraction slower than real time so hopefully when i see the fight again i will have a better view and probably a different scorecard

This is a really good, thought-provoking point, as I'd previously been of the view that the longer the wait, the more it would favour Manny, as Floyd's reflexes would start to slip, while he only seemed to be improving.
However, based on recent developments, as you point out the reverse could actually be true.
Either way, I can't see anything other than a clear Floyd victory..

im a pacquaio fan and wanted this fight 2-3 years ago as i was convinced his speed of hand and foot added to mad workrate would win the fight for manny

mayweather would do what marquez did tonight and counter the hell out of manny , although much better....i hope im wrong though.

i will post my updated card when i get to see the fight on a clearer full speed video

People are going on as if Pacquiao should have walked through Marquez! The man is a p4p fighter who has never been stopped.

Looking at the weight in photos I had this one down as been another close run thing as size wise there wasn't that much between them.

If he does fight Mayweather size for me is the reason he'll lose, Floyd was the bookies favourite beforehand he's an even bigger one now.

if manny is to fight floyd now then he must do a henry armstrong windmill impersonation to win...he wound need to throw over 1000 punches and hope mayweather retreats to the ropes

try and box hime or counter floyd and it all over..

still the fight should have been 2-3 years ago...thats the bias kicking in though lol

I actually hope Manny retires and robs floyd of any opportunity to get his name on his record. Sincerely the fight should have been made when manny was on form he's waited 4-5 years to ensure there is as little risk as possible. If Manny retires I won't be upset.

Probably not my friend, but two modest performances in a row?! What are your thoughts?

I am hoping to watch the fight later today to judge for myself. I still want to see the big fight and I have always thought Money was holding off to build up the hype and therefore make more cash. Pacquiao's style is made for Mayweather IMO - I can't see him retiring if his performance was as bad as everyone was saying.

Mayweather's done himself no favours by avoiding Pacquiao.

That match-up now reeks of one fighter being on the wane when really, that may not be the case at all. Marquez is clearly a double-hard bastard who's proven to be the turd in Pacquiao's pugilistic punchbowl at every time of asking.

A lot of people called it, but I'm sure deep down, most felt there was a strong possibility that Manny's ascension over the past few years would've made this not much more than a lucrative mismatch. In reality, that would've been the only outcome which wouldn't have damaged the status of the Mayweather bout.

I simply can't see a way that the lustre can be restored to that bout. All of the momentum has now shifted in Mayweather's favour.

I'm viewing this from the perspective of a Mayweather fan, as opposed to the man himself. I'm sure Floyd's thrilled at last night's outcome, but from the point of view of those who actually gave a shit about his legacy, this is just another defining bout which has gone off the boil due to his refusal to face the best at a time they were viewed to be at their pinnacle.

In order to get the train back on it's tracks, Pacquiao now needs an inhuman performance. Is that going to come with a Bradley fight? I seriously doubt it. There's a decent chance that bout does even more damage to the Mayweather bout.

Well done Floyd, you now personify everything that's wrong with this sport, blazing a spotlight on the completely just UFC system and the difference that lies between a sport in full growth and one which is slowly choking itself into farce.

Manny has always had nightmares with right hand counters and lateral movement. That's why he's had fits in his last 2 fights. Ariza said Manny is at his physical peak, he should know

I think he reached his absolute zenith in the Cotto fight, he was absolutely awesome that night.

Whilst I am of the opinion that he's lost a step with his footwork, he was just facing a better fighter than he's been used to facing since 2008, Marquez has the full box of tricks to not only diffuse Pacquiao, but do plenty of damage of his own.

Let's be honest, he knew he lost once the final bell went. Not sure this helps build a Floyd fight tbh, he's just got his arse kicked good and proper yet received a phantom verdict - for the 2nd time against JMM.

It would have been better the decision going the other way and Manny having to win a 4th fight, for credibility's sake at least. The weight issue was completely blown away, Marquez if anything looked the stronger man in there and hurt Manny more than Manny hurt him.

Perhaps these beer and giggles fights against the likes of Clottey, Margarito and Mosley have taken the edge off him, whereas Marquez has been facing live opponents like Diaz and Katsidis?

eff me, JMM is hardly as fresh as a daisy is he?
Totally agree - some on here (King and myself included) have ALWAYS said that Mayweather beats Pacman with something to spare and that has never been more obvious than now. He's been three times with Marquez so the key to beating Manny is containing by way of studying JMM's approach. PBF will feint, side-step and even back on to ropes in order make Pacman miss and then pot-shot him with counters - Pacman will lose his rythm and essentially be tormented to death. PBF wins wide points decision for me.

Having said all that, i wld have put me house on Purdy walking straight through Lynes so what do i know?

This was the first fight in the three, where Marquez didn't engage in a brawl, or get caught early on. In the first fight, he got nailed badly, and tried to fight his way out of trouble, which ended in another two heavy knockdowns.

He then proceeded to box manny's head off for 10 rounds, earning a rather unfortunate draw in my opinion.

The second fight was nip and tuck, but once again, Marquez elected to stand and trade, which resulted in the knockdown, and ultimately another close loss.

This time, he stuck to his gameplan throughout, and in my opinion, made pacman look rather stupid - I thought it was an easy win, though I must confess to not scoring it fully, I can't imagine giving manny more than 3-4 rounds, I know I had one even too.

Manny can be outboxed, he always could be, Morales managed it for the first fight, and large parts of the 2nd fight.

the problem is , most guys arent good enough to keep focus and keep him neutral, or get drawn into a machismo battle.

Mayweather in my opinion would absolutely piss it, and I think if he wanted to, could stop manny.

I think calls for Manny to retire are rather silly. He got outboxed by one of the greatest fighters of his generation.

Marquez is a master boxer, and had clearly prepared for this bout very well, the physical conditioning and the gameplan were I think instrumental.

Marquez was able to keep manny honest by rattling him with stiff shots, and his movement was exemplary, he just kept manny moving all night, and stayed away from the left hook which remains his lethal weapon still.

let's not forget one man's meat is another man's poison.

saying that mayweathers attitude has left everything down to speculation in the past & now after this poor showing he's likelly to step to the plate now the odds are stacked which to me spells boring.
