HOF statistics?

Post by zojo »

In sports like baseball, there are standards where if you achieve a particular statistic in the sport, you are pretty much a lock into the Hall of Fame.

.300 career batting % will pretty much get you in the Hall of Fame
400 home runs will get you in
3,000 hits will pretty much get you in

What about boxing?

Are there any stats that will get you automatically into the HOF?

100 wins (even if a journeyman?)
belts in 4 weightclasses (even during the age of the alphabet soup organizations, 14 weightclasses, etc...)
20 year career???

Any stats that will get you a space into the boxing HOF?

None of those guarantee anything. It's all about popularity these days, you have voters saying they have never heard of someone on their ballot.

I really don't think there are any statistics that can get you into the boxing HOF. Winning world titles helps, as does beating world champions, but really it's all about quality of opposition and (not or) longevity.

Unfortunately,in the not to distant future it will be probably be about collecting a few WBS titles and having 3 or less losses regardless of the competition.

I don't think statistics alone will be enough to get a fighter entered in to the Hall Of Fame. :shame:
