Super Elite Grand Finale Tournament

Post by kevo »

Super Elite Grand Finale Tournament!!!

Sup guys, kevo here, you friendly Greatest Manager of All Time.

I've had an idea for an end of season tournament for the top fighters, a kind of Super Six if you will, created in order to find out who really is the best of the best. The tournament would be fought in a round-robin format with the top six SimPugs taking part (if for any reason a manager doesn't wish for his fighter to take part, the next highest ranked fighter would take his place).

As well as forcing the elite Heavyweights to face of, this would be the perfect way to sort the wheat from the chaff when it comes to the business of HoF nominations. The 'popularity contest' critisism levelled at the HoF voting process in the past would be all but eliminated as your peers would be forced to sit up and take notice of your willingness to take part in such a tournament.

This could be ran over the last 5 weeks of the season, or maybe even post-season as a sort of play-off finale?

Thoughts?

Interesting idea. If we can establish a top 6 for the season and get them to agree, you may be on to something.

Well done Kevo. :TU:

I really think this would be the perfect way to end the season, and i'd be immensely proud if my idea were to bear fruit.

Message

Dear Commish,

As you know the current Heavyweight season is on the home stretch, shortly it will be ending and the HOF arguments will start as they inevitably do.

In pratcially every season that has past - there have been dispute over who deserves a place in the HOF. And (without meaning to be controversial) most of the it just comes down to a popularity contest and the reputation of a fighters Manager.

What I propose is a simulated Super Six World Boxing Classic.
This concept will match up the 6 best fighters of the Heavyweight season against each other, no excuses, no ducking and no jiving.
Just blood & glory.
(If any of the fighters Manager chose not to enrol in this, we will then simply invite the 7th most succesful boxer of the season and so on)

I propose that The Super Six could take place over 5 consecutive weeks (for example Weeks 36-40) and it would be a round robin formula where all the best fighters fight each other.

I realise that this idea won't settle the HOF debates that are sure to come, but it would put the gloss on to finish off a great Heavyweight season.

Inevitably, I believe that if I propose this idea in the Sim public it will not be considered on principle (because it is me who is throwing it out there)... Whereas if you, as The Good Commish where to propose it, it would get a greater interest.

The 2 questions I would like to ask you are:

1. Do you think people will be in favour of this?

2. I myself would like to propose it, but I would like your backing.
Will you give me your support in this venture?

If you wish for my input Mr Kevo. I can provide you with shortlist of names to be considered for The Super Six World Boxing Classic. (Based on the six most succesful fighters of this season).

Yeah this is sound. Would be a nice little thing to come out on top of.

I don't think it should be used as a barometer for who were top dogs in the season though, as anyone can beat anyone on the day. HOF material should be measured by season exploits.

I had my administrative executives request that Kevo present this idea, with the assumption that any GBP initiative of this nature would bring much in the way of controversy, and thus would not allow for such a full and enthusiastic naked embrace.

Kevo is clearly the "Sandusky" of the forum and I see everyone is getting on board with "his" excellent idea.

However we advise you to forgo the shared showering, leg touching and other less desireable aspects of Kevo's "horseplay".

We also suggest that all participants agree to send the winner of this bit of chicanery to THE ROCK at the end of the season for final disposition.

I like this idea, but, if TF's willing, I'd prefer it to be an end-of-season addition, rather than a tourney to round out the weeks.

I agree with GM, it should be after the 40 weeks have finished. Use the full 40 weeks to try and gain entry to the Super 6. Fighters like my Jeannette are just outside the "Super 6" at the moment and could use the final 10 odd weeks to make a push for it.

I also propose that kevo's naming of the competition stands as it is. The SEGFT has a nice ring to it.

I wouldn't be so sure that Jack Dempsey will come out on top of this, it's gonna be pretty hard fought.

I agree that HOFers should be judged by the weight of their season, hence the reason I contacted The Commish regarding it. But nonethelss, The Super Six will be a great spectacle at the end of the seaosn.

When considering this I intially thought that the final weeks 36-40 would be a good time for the tournament, but actually I now prefer it to be after the 40 weeks. Because it has become a kind of playoff tournament now.

This tournament is in no way set up to take away from the MDT, merely an end of season spectacle for all Sim Managers to enjoy, nor was it designed to raise my profile/standing in The Sim community (unlike Crease's cynical attempt to get in the back door of the HoF with his crappy 'Prizefighter' tournament)
