He lost to Arnulfo Bravo at the 1994 US Jr Championships at 51 kg thus missed the World Juniors of that year.

Yeah, and I think his loss to Carlos Navarro was a box-off for the Panams.

I think he lost to Eric Morel too. I remember both of them (Eric & Floyd) talking about it during the 95 World Championships in Berlin.

And you're correct. Carlos Navarro did beat Floyd in the Pan Am Trials. Not sure if you guys remember but that weight class was so full Carlos had to win 2 more bouts than everyone else to make the Pan Am team. That fights for that weight class started 2 days before all of the others.

I think most amateur records are wrong. They tend to be announced as better than they are. Rigondeux is always listed as 243-4, but I remember he admitted to another poster on here (I think locoxelbox) that he had at least 12 losses.

243-4 or 243-12. The bottom line is a lot of wins and not a lot of losses. Sometimes if you don't have a lot of losses, you haven't faced great competition. Sometimes. Rigo is definitely not the case. It's amazing that USA Boxing doesn't try to do a better job of recording records. I know things are hurting right now, but to me that's a part of history that would be interesting to have access to.

Lost to Serafim Todorov (Pro: 5-1)

Lost to Martin Castillo (Pro: 35-3)

Lost to Carlos Navarro (Pro: 27-6-1)

I have heard that he might have lost to Sanchez twice, but I haven't found anything definitive on it.

That would make it seven then. And he probably has other losses in his early career. He does also have a medical Walk Over loss to Tigran Ouzlian, Greece at a tournament in Russia in 1995 but that don´t count for his record. Wonder what happened to Mayweather, why he couldn´t fight.

Sure, that's where most of their bouts come from until they get really good and it becomes hard to get fights on the local level.

In order to have a totally accurate record, USA Boxing would have to keep track of every registered boxer's wins and losses from the time they start competing in local shows. Honestly, I don't think that's important enough for paid USAB staff to spend time and energy on - there are consistently over 20,000 registered boxers - keeping up with all of them would be a nightmare. It would make more sense for each LBC to keep track of their own boxers (if anyone has time there, too). Just my opinion. 8)

I agree with DC but BoxMel is right. The assigned Timekeeper should record on the bout sheets and submit to the President or Sec of the LBC. It should be documented. Buy the passbook is key at times due to the regional or national events. But LBCs should start keep track of the stats and than submit to USA Boxing and let them get it right

But why do you think USAB should keep track of every boxer in the US? It would still take many man hours to input all that information when there isn't any money for our athletes and the staff is at bare bones. And can you imagine the time it would take to answer any queries about amateur boxer's records? USAB would be totally overloaded and there are many more important things to do. Just my opinion. :box:

History! Preservation! I'm not saying every sub novice boxer in the US should be counted but also why not? Granted we don't wanna over load USA boxing because they have so much more on their plate to worry about (cough cough) but LBCs should take the lead and recording better records of their members.

If Andre Ward hasn't lost since he was 12 years old that is one hell of an amateur record, culminating in an olympic gold.

In England you can box competitively from the age of 11, not sure what the age is in the states, but still - undefeated since you were 12, thats some going.

In Ireland a good amature might have a 80-35 record, at local level you if are very good, you get matched up a weight/year or even both to keep you improving and then throw in a few home town decisions.............

Any update on Floyd´s amateur record? Boxrec lists him at 38-6, counting a walk over loss which really shouldn´t count.
Other losses are to Pheotis Upshaw, Arnulfo Bravo and (according to Mexican media at least) Juan Carlos "El Ranchero" Ramirez. That would make it 8, seven of them within the last two years of his amateur career.

Thanks Bob :TU:
That would make it 43-8 for now, still very little on his formative years. Maybe he didn´t attend many tournaments.
