Is that what a commentator is supposed to do? Or do you want him to priase the one that is losing at the start just incase he turns it around?

Jim is the best commentator by far to spot the early signs of fatigue, a change of tactics and body language.

Damned if he does, damned if he doesn't..... I've read many comments about Jim that he sticks to one negative tone throughout the fight. He gets criticised for this, and gets criticised for jumping ship (which are completely different things).

The excitement and action unfolding in the ring is completely negated by his party pooper approach.

The amount of tremendous fights he has just done nothing but moan his way through is countless.

He blackens the action way too much for me, and it's prompted me to sit out the Sky version and wait for a Showtime / HBO version instead the next morning when it's a marquee fight. They criticise and commend the fighters in equal measure, which is something Jim fails at far too often.

Exactly, by slagging the losing fighter then jumping on board if he turns it round isnt good commenting! Any fool could do that ! Good commenter would say what he thinks the other fighter should try and do ala teddy atlas, anyway Ian darkes the best by a country mile

Nah Atlas is poor, Darke is ok. Watt is miles, miles better than those two.

He points what a fighter is not doing and what he needs to do, in order to turn it around, but can see when certain punches take effect or subtle shifts within the fight. Seriously, people get so hung up about his tone and alleged 'negativity' that they miss the fact the guy knows what he is on about. I don't listen to his 'tone', I listen to what he says.

Al Berstien is good as well. Jim Rosenthal (he worked very well with Jim Watt, in the 80's) is very good too (watch Williams v Czyz, Hearns v Andries and Hearns v Roldan), he notices things that your Lampley etc would never notice.

Jim Watt has a different role to Ian Darke, so not sure why there is the comparison between the two. Ian does the moment by moment and Watt role is too note the shifts in the pattern etc - which he does do admirably.

He also senses when a fighter is "gone" far quicker than most commentators I have heard. The way Solis went down he was shouting "its over".... and the one I distinctly remember in recent times was when Arron floored Webb the first time. Watt stated immediately "he's gone". I thought his eyes looked clear and was going to carry on effectively. Off course it took him several rounds to recover from that initial KD. Similarly, when Rawling was practically masterbating of Haye's "turnaround" vs Klitchsko and going to score a dramatic KD in the last Watt was saying nothing of the sort, cause Klitschko clearly wasn't gone.

Jim Rosenthal has certainly improved since the Duran vs Hearns days "and down!!!" - although that captured the moment, it must have been a real shock to see the Great Hands of stone on the canvas.
