Best 24/7 I've seen in a long time.
Especially Cotto talking about his father, very touching.

I love how they are building on Margarito's villain image. He looked like an extra from a Paulo Escobar biopic when being interviewed.
Cotto seems like a top bloke.

Psychologically Margarito has got to him, I think he'll get stopped again.
Re: Cotto vs Margarito 24/7 - great episode.
Margarito definately appears to have a phsycological advantage. Lets hope Cotto comes into the fight with the right mind-set and can stay with it as it progresses. It was very touching watching him well up just trying to speak one or two words about his Dad, but it gave me a niggling thought that Margarito might try to use that against him on fight night by whispering a couple of sick taunts in his ear to throw him off his game plan. I would'nt put anything past that sick fcuk.
Great episode of 24/7!

Thanks for linking that, really hope Cotto wins but he needs to accept more than dodgey handwraps palied a part in his defeat, if he just blaimes it on them and expects without them he's bound to win he'll have trouble.

Re: Cotto vs Margarito 24/7 - great episode.
I rewatched Cotto vs Margarito 1 last night.
I am completely convinced that Margarito had the illegal hand wraps.
Just watch the second round and look at Cottos face after the round.
Margarito was coming forward and taking shots but he was forcing Cotto to exchange punches also. However, in the early going, Cotto was getting the better of the exchanges. But it was clear that Margaritos punches were having a big effect, even though a lot of them were arm punches.
I really noticed at some points that Margarito was punching as if he had bricks in his fists. He wasn't punching through his target, it was like he was just wanting to connect, knowing that he had the bricks in his fists.
After close consideration, I think Cotto takes a decision in this one. He will move and box and won't be slowed down by plaster of paris punches

I would love to see Cotto smash him to pieces but I have a bad gut feeling about it. I think it's going to be heart breaking to see Cotto end up stopped again, but if he pulls it off it will be a superb win for all of boxing!!

Re: Cotto vs Margarito 24/7 - great episode.
People have been making whining fvcking excuses for Cotto ever since he took the knee in the 11th that night. Go back & look at the threads just after the fight. There's been a sense of moral outrage & indignation ever since he went down that last time. The subsequent glove-tampering revelations have given a lot of false hope to a lot of his fans who --if you care to go back & look at the forum pages-- were acting this aggrieved & butt-hurt right after the first fight, when no-one suspected Margarito of anything other than of having kicked his arse solidly.
What was found before the Mosley fight has been used retrospectively to gloss over:
A) Cotto couldn't even budge him once, or stop him coming forward (though this was probably due to plaster of Paris in Marg's goatee).
B) Cotto couldn't match him for physical strength on the inside, or push him off (though this was due to plaster of Paris in Marg's tattoos).
C) Cotto made the same basic mistakes over & over again, & was walked down, cornered & unable to think of a way to escape from a guy who showed all the footwork of Boris Karloff as The Mummy (though this was due to plaster of Paris in Marg's boots).
D) Cotto ran out of gas at the same time he ran out of ideas (though this was due to the cumulative tiring effects of all the plaster mentioned above, plus that in Margarito's gloves).
Evidently I am evil for pointing this out, but unless somehow Cotto has dramatically improved his reflexes, his boxing brain & his defence OR unless Margarito's beatings have caught up with him (admittedly far more likely), I see a tough gruelling fight again. People's sense of moral outrage (& my entire point is to question the legitimacy & the source of said moral outrage from some) is making this a lot more one-sided (& far divorced from the reality-based proceedings of their first battle) than it might turn out to be.

i will add, as i have said before, that lots of people on boxing forums seemed almost aghast that a fighter of Margarito's type could/did beat a boxer of Cotto's type.
Re: Cotto vs Margarito 24/7 - great episode.
Ive never wished bad on any fighter but I hope to god that Cotto finishes Margarito and that he never boxes again! The way he laughs at times when asked did he cheat and then says he doesn't think the wrap was torn! Him and Capetillo need a serious doing over! I jusg Cotto does it to Margarito!
Re: Cotto vs Margarito 24/7 - great episode.
I think he had the raps in v cotto. I hope cotto knocks him out!! I hope no one gets hurt but I want cotto to get revenge and make margarito look silly, although marga is a warrior and it's a tough fight

Re: Cotto vs Margarito 24/7 - great episode.
@KG: Er, no, none of that. Sorry. Obviously my post was so content-free you have to make things up in order to have something to address, but I'll go through it point by point.
The only thing to change my mind on is whether or not the accrued damage from AM's last two beatings has slowed him down enough for Cotto to take him.
Anyway, point was, people sounded like this before they knew anything about Margo's little helpers. I don't think people have changed their opinions, just now they definitely have something to hang their rage off (AM's loading of the gloves), & I just find it mildly amusing, is all. Go back, read the threads mon. For a few round here you'd've thought Margs' had raped their children the way they reacted to Cotto losing. It's nice for them to have something to justify that.
Next time I shall include a disclaimer: "This is a stupid & pointless fight being staged for the benefit of everyone who likes their bears baited & their badgers poked with a stick. Even amongst the sewage that passes for everyday life in boxing, the contemplation of this is damaging to everyone's soul, leaving a patina of shite smeared across all of us even as we all sit here waving Puerto Rican flags & praying for Miguel to put the other dude in hospital. Oh, & by the by, innit funny that in some quarters they didn't even need to know Margarito could possibly have cheated, they were acting all disgusted & ting right after the first fight! Aren't people strange?"
I shall stop talking about this now, as I appear so very hard to understand.
Nope, didn't say that. At all, in fact. Are you saying that people are a bit daft for doing something as outrageous as learning about some facts, Margarito's tampering, then using this information to inform and change their minds.
Yes I would. I don't see however how Margarito loading his gloves last time means it is more likely this time that Cotto will be able to stay out of his way for twelve rounds. As I wrote out in my last post, in handy bullet-point format.Would you never change your mind on something if new shit came to light?
The only thing to change my mind on is whether or not the accrued damage from AM's last two beatings has slowed him down enough for Cotto to take him.
I'm sorry, where did I write about that? I don't think I mentioned Cotto quitting at all; furthermore, I am all for quitting, meself. Don't see the point in taking a shoeing just to say "Nyah-nyah-nyaaah-nyah, I went the distance!" If you've had enough you've had enough & I'd never hold that against anyone.Granted, fans do hate it when a fighter quits, especially if he is close to the end of the contest and there is a lot riding on it.
People always wanted Cotto to win, which was my main point. & they certainly didn't need Margarito to transgress in order to get their moral indignation all riled up when he didn't. Which is what I was saying in my post, if anyone'd read it.Now people want Cotto to win,
Yah. & the moral balance of the universe & the reputation & prestige of the sport in the eyes of the world will be redressed should a one-eyed, shot former glove-tamperer get a career-ending shellacking from someone he once beat. You're right. Of course. Which'll be much more morally justified than the shellacking he got from Pacquiao, 'cos, uh... Well... Er. It just will. Right?there is just something really sleazy and low about the disregard Margarito showed to his opponents, the sport and the fans.
Sorry, this is the problem with point-by-point, you get all snarled up. Yes, as I said above, I agree that venerating Cotto for taking this fight is fvcking stupid, if out the other side of your mouth you're gonna be criticising Pacquiao for "giving Margarito a second chance".And I'm not saying Cotto is without sin as he is prepared to bite his tongue and ignore the facts just to make a big money rematch

Re: Cotto vs Margarito 24/7 - great episode.
If anyone has a right to be fighting Margarito, it's Cotto - sure sure, two wrongs don't make a right, but Cotto has earned the right to get his rematch. If Margarito is somewhat shot now, then...well, what a shame, he had little regard for the health of his opponents when he was pounding the hell out of them with his plaster of paris enhanced gloves - only a fool would believe he would only do this for the Mosley fight, especially as Mosley was given very little chance going in, whereas, Cotto was favourite to win.King Geedorah wrote:Nice rant, but it doesn't make any sense whatsoever, which I suppose is the point of a rant. What kind of people would do such a thing? How can anyone justify learning about something new and then actually applying this new info to an opinion? They're letting the Internet down with this type of behaviour.Datsue wrote:People have been making whining fvcking excuses for Cotto ever since he took the knee in the 11th that night. Would you never change your mind on something if new shit came to light? What if you had a mate who was a top-level shagger. Every time you look over at him a girl is falling into his chest. Granted, fans do hate it when a fighter quits, especially if he is close to the end of the contest and there is a lot riding on it. But they hate out and out cheats even more and when the new evidence came to light it added a fresh perspective to Cotto's decision to sit it out. Again, are you saying that people should stick to their viewpoints on Cotto and ignore subsequent events? That sounds very un-Datsue to me.
Sure, as a sport boxing is hardly the most moral minded, especially when it comes to attitudes towards use of PEDs, but in instances where wraps are tampered people tend to react with outrage, and so they should as loading the gloves in boxing is reviled. There's greater evils but this one just gets the old gander up, particularly in this case as Margarito seems pretty blasé about it all and was handed a way back by Manny, who is clearly a forgiving man when it comes to cheats.
After finding out that Margo loaded, and he clearly did, the minds of many people turned back to the Cotto fight, the damage accrued and many, including confirmed Cheato fans, reappraised the contest. This is a positive thing as this type of about turn so rarely happens in boxing due to deeply entrenched opinions.
Now people want Cotto to win, we all know he won't, but it would be nice if he did as you can guarantee that once he was caught Margo didn't think 'I won't allow this to happen again' he probably thought 'I need to find a new way of loading the deck in my favour'. Handicapping via weight, overmatching etc. all goes on and yes it is damaging, so I'm with you on that, but there is just something really sleazy and low about the disregard Margarito showed to his opponents, the sport and the fans.
I even think it is great that people have seen him obliterated by Mosley and still won't forgive as there's a trend in boxing to give people a pass on things as long as they take a beating, this hasn't been extended to Margarito.
In a sport defined by sin, a sometimes lack of respect and the bottom line, loading gloves is the ultimate transgression and Margo is viewed accordingly.
And I'm not saying Cotto is without sin as he is prepared to bite his tongue and ignore the facts just to make a big money rematch.
As you state, the loading of gloves, is probably considered the ultimate transgression, and rightly so - the potential for damage caused is pretty huge. Look at the state of Cotto's face after taking only a few shots from Maragarito, and subsequently how badly he seems to mark up in every single fight.
Screw the massive moral dilemma, I'll be honest, I want to see Margarito get battered senseless - i rarely if ever wish that on a fighter, but the man seems to be a scumbag, so I simply don't care if he gets badly injured.

Whining excuses!!!
My god, he was in a fight with a man caught flagrantly wearing loaded gloves.......is it not fair to give Cotto the benefit of the doubt, given that nobody ever bashed him up like that before.
I don't personally think Cotto has ever been the same fighter since then, sure, maybe Pacman would always have beaten him, but Cotto fell apart SO quickly as soon as Pacman landed something of significance, and yet again his face was a mess.

If Maragrito is permanantly blinded in one eye, would he receive compensation from the commision? Because he would in this country, the BBBofC wouldn't let it go ahead.

NY have licensed Margarito. MSG is on
