Jackie Bowers Funeral today

Post by knockout »

I attended Jackies funeral today to pay my respects.

The guy was a London boxing legend, loved his fighters and would do anything for them.

This was reflected by a huge turnout at his funeral.

Many ex pros and trainers whos lives he had touched were in attendance to say goodbye.

Darkie Smith did a wonderful speech at the church.

Rest in peace Jackie, they dont make them like you anymore!!!

Met Jackie a couple of times Great man came along to help me in a prizefighter with the cuts and he showed me so much.

Thinking of Neil and the rest of the Bowers family at this time.

Jack was a great man. I spoke to jack a few times as my brother rocky was very close to him. Jack lived for boxing and everytime i spoke to him i always was amazed the knowledge he had of boxers and who they had fought. He talked the truth and wanted to help every boxer not take money from them. Dont think there is many out they with more boxing knowledge then Jack.
RIP Jack

RIP Mr Bowers.

Of all the hours I spent in his company it is still the UK Premiere of the Ali film "When We Were Kings" that I remember Jack most fondly for. I have no idea what had happened that day but he seemed to be a little "bored" with the usual faces and said "Come on Col, you sit with me and we'll chat boxing" which we did, and then we watched the film, and then we chatted more afterwards..... of course you wouldn't know it come a couple of days later when we were back in the gym and I was in the way as he was getting the tape ready for his fighters

Knockout: is that you Matthew? If you have contact with Neil (or indeed Michael etc) please pass on my condolancies, I lost contact with Neil a while back and cannot find an e-mail address anywhere.
