I'm actually a big fan of yours, although I am losing hope with Boxing News. They used to give small hall shows more coverage but it is very difficult to get exposure in there now. They were sent the same press release as lots of other websites & media outlets but chose not to preview the event.
After they didn't give my last show any coverage before the event either I decided to actually ring Tris Dixon. I know he's a busy guy but I figured at least that way I could be sure he was at least aware that the show was taking place & that it was being broadcast. I also invited him or any BN journo that he had free to the press conference but none showed up. Once again BN chose to not preview my show, but not a lot more than that I can do. Funny because the people who do show interest seem to become converts v quickly, I'll keep plugging away at them!
Regardless of BN's seeming lack of interest their were plenty who did find the event attractive enough. The venue was filled to capacity of just over 1,400 and 768,000 watched the live broadcast on Eurosport. I saw the post saying (I think in jest) that more would tune in to Murphy v Owen than Crolla v Limond, well they did so well done on your prediction Le Forge!
The budget afforded me by Eurosport does not compete with what Sky pay and so I don't think it totally right to compare us in every regard, however I would challenge anyone to find more entertainment/value for money. I've worked in just about every job possible from carrying buckets to matchmaking/training/managing & promoting so have a good bit of experience which I put to use when putting the shows together.
I've never claimed that every fight is a 50/50, to do so would not make sense, I manage close to 70 boxers. Many a boxer's career has been ruined by being rushed & I want the guys I manage to have good careers so I wouldn't want to do that. That said I don’t want them to have all easy fights either and also understand the need for shows to be good value so I try to make the top of the bill as close to 50-50 as possible along with a few other chief supporting bouts that are competitive.
Anyway I hope this may give some insight to our events & hopefully you can join me at an event one of these days. If BN ever do decide to give me any coverage Bob, I hope its you that does the piece, like I said, I’m a big fan.
