WTF...Off topic so i apologise..gary speed dead!!!

I'm still in shock this morning - like a lot of people I never thought the death of someone I never knew would affect me this way. The whole of Wales is in mourning right now, I remember watching Speed in his debut against Costa Rica back in 1990 and many more after that. The reaction from fans of every team in the land speaks volumes.

He was just starting to get the national team back on track and the future was bright, lets hope we can qualify for Brazil in his memory.

I've got 2 sons a similar age to his 2 and it makes me shudder when I think what they're going through right now, why the hell did he do it??

Love to hear from psychologist on these matters... I've followed his career through football mainly through Leeds Utd where he won the Championship, he always seemed a really positive guy. Even on FF yesterday I listened to him and Gary Mcallister and as always he came across really well. He's the same age as myself and I always thought how well he had looked after himself. He played on into his late thirties and still looked fit enough today to play in the lower leagues at least. Things at Wales were coming together too. Cannot understand this, really sad and confusing. No doubt things will begin to seep out in the press in the coming days.
I have had 2 fairly close friends who took their own life and other than a terminal illness I cannot accept a reason to ever do this. My thoughts are with his family. RIP Gary.

I think that's the problem with mental illness (if he was indeed suffering from depression rather than some of the more salacious rumours out there), it's not tangible and therefore extremely hard to understand. People will see him with his wife, kids, money etc and think 'what the hell has he got to be depressed about?'. Unfortunately, it doesn't work like that and unless you've suffered from it is almost impossible to understand. It sounds harsh but none of the stuff mentioned (wife, kids, money, 'good life', will really make a difference when you're that depressed. I hope the press leave the family to grieve in peace RIP Gary Speed.
