The Fight Of Their Lives: ITV1 10:35pm 05/12/2011

Post by Syntax Error »

There's an upcoming documentary on Monday night about the bout between Nigel Benn & Gerald McClellan in 1995. It details their stories since & the emotional reunion of the 2 fighters after years of apparent bitterness.

Looks like it'll be a good watch folks. :TU:

I also saw the clip.

MCClellan`s sister saying she didn`t know how Benn can sleep at night after what he "did" to her brother was out of order.

understandably she is upset and bitter, but it is not Benn`s fault. They were both boxers giving their all and what happened was not intentional, nor something that Benn took any pleasure from at all.

yeah she oughta think about the stray dogs that cnt used to get hold of and use for his dog to rip apart in "training" for his dog's fights. karma is a bitch. Benn is a gent and a real man, not like that little faggot

I agree - completely unfair comment to make about Benn.

Harsh.
I'm a dog owner and I think what he did was awful, but you think he deserves this?
Am I being harsh? I don’t know myself. But what I do know is that people who abuse those who are powerless to prevent the act, are scum and deserve all they get. That includes animals, kids, women, the mentally handicapped. I have all the sympathy and empathy in the world for people who suffer injuries that change their lives, but when the person who suffers the injury has committed what I deem an evil act then any sympathy I should have is gone.

I might be wrong but didn't his family go against medical advice and take him back to the States too early when he might have recovered if he'd stayed put? As I said, I could be getting mixed up here. Plus, even if I have read that it could be bollocks, of course.

Benn was lucky to make it out the first round. If the fight was held anywhere in the world but the UK, it would have been over in the first.

I might be wrong here but i think that comment was taken from a long time ago just after it actually happened, so she was bound to feel bad and defend her own especially so soon after the fight. emotions were running high.

i'm sure i saw a news article a few years later saying she regretted saying it....i'm sure of it

What point should it have been stopped? He was hurt early but he made the count fairly.
exactly the ref did him a lot of favours though

He was wobbling all over the place as I recall and did seem to get the 'benfit of the doubt' from the referee. A lot of refs would have stopped it as he was unsteady on his feet.

Obviously Benn recovered and what followed was an awesome fight, with a tragic ending. It just makes you realise the risks boxers take when they step in the ring

Another nonsense comment from you.

I'm quite happy for you to arrange for Jane to interview me to discuss my supposed retarded views on all things boxing.

An old article on McClellan and the fight.

The fight was amazing shame it ended the way it did, makes you wonder though.

A new piece on Benn on the bbc sport website atm.

Benn/McClellan was the first fight I ever saw live on TV (other than a one round blow out by Bruno about a year before) made a huge impression.

Isn't the count extended when a boxer is out of the ring?

i respect people who show others, including all kinds of beings, respect. mclellan had no respect for animals at the very least so he can go and fornicate himself. would you show respect to serial killers, rapists, paedo's? no. so why show respect to someone who killed animals for a laugh? same shit to me.
