Will Tomlinson V Alan Herrera Aussie fight of the decade!

Post by dubs »

WOW what a fight! Ive been an avid aussie boxing fan for years and while watching this fight i couldnt help but think this was an all time classic, can anyone think of a better aussie fight on Australian soil in the last 10 years?
I was so releived to watch a fight of this clalibre in Australia! Forget Green, Mundine, Geale, Katsidis, Darchinyan, Will Tomlinson is our next superstar and i have no doubt will be our best since Fenech!!

lets not go bonkers!!!!!!!!!

great fight to watch, but if u have seen plenty of aussie fights in the last few years, u would choose a different one.

will needs another handful of opponents like this bloke to help him go to the next level imo.

Out on interest Buster- an example.

Best fight of the decade, perhaps not , but it was pretty damn good. I think Will has much potential. The next Fenech- hmmm, couldnt say that at this stage. But he is good and think at some point will undoubtedly challenge for a title.

Anyway i thought it was a cracker. Hats off again to both lads.

Certainly had a few hairy moments. For the most part he did seem to compose himself ok when hurt/tired. Dished out alot of punishment but Herrera was one tough opponent. No doubt Wills toughest challenge to date. Be interesting to see who his next foe is.Reckon would have won some fans with his last showing.

It would be in my top 5 fights of the decade, to be fair to both boys it was a very special fight.

I was generally worried for Tomlinson after round 5 or 6, but he changed my mind as the fight went on, and the very reason why he deserves to be included in the top 10 fighters.

He could have won it easily if he boxed, but decided to push his claim as 1 of the bright entertaining prospects of Australian boxing.

He doesn't have to win every fight the Katsidis way, he actually can box.

It would be great to see domestically Will fight either Fleming(after a couple more wins) or if Kickett could maybe come back fight a few times and set that fight up. Or revenge....Tomlinson vs Elomar.

Good thread, and a just thread.

Fair call buster, but what fight would you favour over this?

I thought those mid rounds absolutley made the fight! Will showed his versatility from wanting to draw herrera inside early on to fighting more outside when he was cut, Herrera looked comfortable on the outside but credit to him took it to Will on the inside..... one tough hombre!!! The way Will was able to change his style and tactics to the situation he found himself in when cut was impressive.

i'm not going to bother to name them.

but these r the sort of opponents that many of our leading contenders could learn plenty from fighting.

better than fighting an under-sized thai fighter with 15 wins and 30 losses imo.

Couldnt agree more buster- Will would have learned so much from that fight. He fought through adversity. Showed he has got a decent kit of punches and was throwing them quick and with purpose. Showed great ability to recover and adapt.

Elomar revenge- that would be nice!!! Dont think it will happen.
