While I have always been a fan of Eubank, he was also one of the most criticised fighters of his day. After securing his legacy in the Benn and Watson classics he milked the big Sky money with that million pound deal, stunk the place out in scraping home against the likes of Schommer and Amaural(sp) and continued to frustrate by refusing to finish off Collins.
People now often forget that, of course he had redeeming wars against Thompson and Calzaghe, and it was when the going got really tough his true colours were shown. But it does almost make you laugh when people hark back to him as if it was a golden era!

This is very true, when Chris Jr came along the most common comment was 'I hope he's as exciting as his Dad'. Always thought that was funny as at the time I remember people complaining about 'boring Eubank'.

Don't get me wrongI overall I loved Eubank Snr but it's funny what a a bit of time does to people's perceptions.

Quixall,
That's my point.
To emulate is defined as imitating.
Why can't young Eubank just be his own man ?

Maybe he just looks up to his dad and idolizes him. I think he perhaps sees what his dad achieved and aims to copy it. It would have been better if he had been called Mark or Richard instead of Chris, which automatically becomes a pressure. Maybe he will change as he gets older and stop some of the stage managed moves and jump into the ring etc, but for now it's obviously giving him some confidence. I think if he goes onto to do well, then he will be seen as a good fighter in his own right, because at the end of the day it's him getting in that ring and not his father.

Do you think that's his choice mate ?
I don't. I think it's contrived and a PR Marketing ploy - organised by others who will by making bread out of it.

You could have a valid point there twenty six and i'd never thought of it that way. It could well be a marketing ploy to get the kid established in the short term. Like i said in my previous answer, that kind of strategy will initialy get people interested to a certain degree but the kid still has to deliver in the ring. I think one thing can be said and no matter how much the kid tries to emulate or copy his father, ultimately he is an individual and will be judged on that as time goes on.

Its too early to tell about Jr. i can say this, the stoppage was bad! That is the kind of fight that Eubank Jr. needed to really showcase what he can do. It was obvious Psonko wasnt punching back but at the same time, I didnt really see Eubank Jr hurt him where it deserved a stoppage. I believe they were eager to get the W on his record rather than letting him get some rounds under his belt. I guess it sounds better win you have a high KO% but that to me didnt merit a TKO. For a debut, it was so-so. I congratulate him but I wont say that he will have a great career. Just another Hearns Jr in my book.

Didn't Ryan Rhodes imitate Hamed and get a leg up due to the connection then?

Also 3k people gobbles?

That aside, the kid can fight, believe me he can.

Boxingchat,
That old cliche ?
I think you'll find that the correct line is every Brendan Ingle fighter is a mimic of Bomber Graham - which is rhubarb.
I think you're missing my point. There are loads of fighters who have mirrored themselves on other fighters.
However I can't think of many who
1/ Have the same name and are directly related
2/ Have the same ring entrance
3/ Have the same posing moves
4/ Have the same shorts
etc etc
I might be wrong but I think that's someone else's idea not the lad himself. Great while things are on the up - not so great if things begin to slide.
I don't think there's any doubt the kid can box.
Which then reinforces what I'm saying.
He can be good with his own identity.

ive been singing his praises ever since his bare knuckle youtube days a few years ago when he kicked the asshole of that guy who insulted his father in the car park.I was so impressed by that performance especially as he had come across as an uncle tom snot nosed kid in that FIVE reality show.....everything ive seen about the kid tells me his fathers high principles and high sense of character are in the kid....he is the biggest talent emerging in british boxing and i predict he will win a version of the world title.

Let's hope. His old man many be a fruit, but he knows what he is doing with his kid. Maybe this kid has had the best boxing education of any current prospect??

Eubanks was a man underappreciated for his chivalry and gallantry. How could anyone hate a guy whose favourite comedians were the two ronnies.
