I agree with this. It is entirely plausible that Reid can uncork a big right hand that turns the fight around. Lacy will walk into some fire.

Where'd you get this Tony? Any idea of the amateurs name or when it happened? Just wondering if it was recent and may have a bearing on the fight.

I think stylewise Reid as an excellent chance but I expect him to drop a close-ish decision maybe staying even until about 8 or 9 rouns then flagging down the home stretch. Assuming he isn't fighting with broken ribs of course :D

A few years ago when Anthony farnell was either still an amateur or just gave up the vest.

Body shots can catch anybody unawares

Aint that the truth  It would be interesting to find out who though. I doubt if it is anyone who is makingwaves in the pro ranks now or they would be dropping that anecdote for all it's worth.

Read again, Totybear. 8)

How's Farnell doing these days with his coaching? I remember Sky showed him in a disused basement area with white walls that he was going to convert into a gym (I think...). Did he get it all off the ground?

Oh I see. Got to say I find that amazing!!!!! Reid is at least 2 leagues above Farnell by anybodies estimation. I didn't put the name with the deed because that sounds so incredible!!!

I am going to stay up, dont think Sky are showing any of the undercard? or maybe they will be... havent heard anything.

Just hoping its a good fight, nothing worse than staying up and then sitting through a boring main event fight.

Oh wait YES there is.. when they put John Ruiz v Rahman on the undercard a few years back and I fell asleep and missed half the main event :x (2003 - on the undercard of the Hopkins v Joppy right and Mayorga v Spinks)

:TU: did you watch that card I mentioned?

Was full of energy until Ruiz v Rahman came on, had to be one of the most boring fights I have ever seen

It's one thing I can't fault Sky for... The way they show replays of the big cards. :TU: Might set the Sky+ to record the fight tonight in case they do show the undercard

Yes it brings it home how important the SKY repeats are when you get Boxing on ITV shown once only. With 2am-4am scheduled you are probably right mate perhaps no significant undercard although i suspect highlights of John Murray will be shown as some point. Remember as well that these big fights are like $50 a piece in America so SKY do hold some benefit for us British viewers.

Fighting dirty against Lacy is a huge mistake. He gets highly irritated by dirty fighters and he tends to start pouring emotion into it to the detriment of his opponent. Vanderpool did well against Lacy until he started fighting dirty -- after that Lacy got mad and KO'd him.

I will happily be corrected on this, but my first thoughts are that the blow that floored Reid when the ref was trying to split them was illegal but the ref still took up a count. It was a harsh dig on an unprotected Reid that knocked the competetion out of the fight. I have had a bit to drink so i might have a completely different opinion by tomorrow. Anyone views?

Im home, take me drunk

Oh and the ref was shit

It shouldn't have been counted as a knockdown, but Lacy was responding to a very deliberate head butt, which the showtime telecast failed to re-show in the replay...I don't think it hurt Reid and he went down mostly for effect, but Reid's big mistake was fighting dirty early...he did that and then Lacy started returning the favor, which Reid really did not like...the referee was pretty bad, but it wouldn't have made a difference!

The ref was terribly biased, or seemed to be. That first knockdown shouldn't have counted, and it was a hard shot, however, Reid had been hurt a couple of times prior and was close to going down at least once before, so I don't honestly think that fight changed things. When Lacy started throwing the uppercuts, that's what really changed things because Reid was taking those clean on the chin and getting knocked around by them.

The first 'knockdown' was bullshit. But I can't say that it changed the fight decisively. Lacy impressed me tonight. I must say that I thought Lacy was odds on for the win, albeit via the judges; I didn't expect him to win that easily. 'Left Hook' looked pretty good in my opinion. I have to say that, after tonight (despite being very much fed up with Calzaghe's career), I wouldn't mind seeing Calzaghe - Lacy. It's not going to redeem Joe's career, and there's no way that it's the mythical 'defining fight'. But it looks like it could be a very entertaining scrap whilst it lasts.

Reid didn't deserve to win, but the ref was so biased it was embarassing!

Imagine if that first knockdown was reversed... the ref comes in, Lacy looks to the ref and Reid leans over and sparks Lacy (and say Lacy didn't get up)... I have no doubt Reid would have been disqualified. And to then deduct a point!!

In the John Murray fight the ref allowed the Florida fighter to lose his gum shield FOUR TIMES and never once did a thing about it, though took every opportunity to tell Murray to "keep his hands up".....

So who was worse in your opinion Roger Tillemann or Jorge Alonso?

Alonso - I also didn't like the way he was stood in the Lacy corner, grinning ear to ear after the fight too.
