NFL fans tend to be rinsed a lot more than us. They even have tv blackouts when games are on in local areas which in turn will force up ticket prices

MMA fans, at least with boxing you can come to an agreement with different promoters to make a superfight. I dont see Strikeforce fighters fighting UFC fighters any soon. I just wish they would make it happen, there are some fighters who I would love to see fight eachother!

The Dark Destroyer wrote:Football fans. You can't watch premier league football live on any other channel but SKY Sports and ESPN, Sky's subs are far more expensive than allegedly, and ESPN's are £9.99 a month too with very few games compared to SKY.
But you still get Match of the Day, FA Cup, Champions League and the World Cup on terrestrial TV and some are legally required to stay that way. That's much better than trying to follow boxing.

I'm a rugby and boxing fan. I have to say, at least the majority of boxing events of public interest are televised (on one channel or another), where as a 3 o'clock premiership football match is never televised on a Saturday. This, unbelievably, has something to do with a deal that 'match of the day' have about showing the footage first, and making sure people go along and watch rather than sitting at home and watching.

I don't like having to pay for Sky Sports and ESPN for rugby but at least my beloved Tigers are now shown more often because one channel doesn't have a monopoly on the sport.

Promoters having Youtube channels to show events is a great move in the right direction, particularly with Smart tv's being on the up. Primetime, Premiersports, Espn etc make watching sport very expensive when you are already paying for Sky/Virgin etc, but if you can't afford all the channels (like me), then you just have to choose which channels suit you best.

After all, if boxing was only shown on Sky Sports, they would be limited to the number of shows they could broadcast and then we'd all moan about not enough boxing, one channel has the monopoly, they've got us by the short and curlies blah, blah, blah.

The advertising space isn't there anymore for ITV to justify boxing and the BBC have made their position clear. There is far more money to be made on public voting than broadcasting boxing.

£10 a month for an exclusive boxing channel, could be better justified if discounts and promotions for tickets to shows for paying customers were on the menu.

If boxing really is a dying sport, then let's get some bums on seats by making it easier to get there.

after watching the fight of their lives last night and hearing what nigel benn got for that fight i think its a disgrace what the likes of khan, mayweather even the likes of ortiz gets and he went over and didnt get up from a straight right hand of pillow fisted floyd, then you see what benn went through to keep his title for 3 quarters of a mill. its the fighters themselves this day and age that are pricing us all out of the sport.

Fst Eddie,
... and its not like Benn got 750k. By the time everyone else had taken their slice, plus the tax man I think he'd be lucky to clear 400k.

Your slightly out of touch there. Zuffa (UFC) now own Strikeforce. There have been a few Strikeforce v UFC fights. Cung Li v Wanderlei, this week is Brock v Overeem., Diaz is there too.

yes i do but not at the price of the fans i think the gready arse promorote and managers should take less of a percentage cause all they do is make a few fone calls turn up and press conferences and get a ringside seat for free

I think the fact that the UFC consistently churns out best v best matches, more than makes up for any subs we have to pay to ESPN. I'm sad to say it but the only fights I've kept on my Sky+ box in 2011 are from the UFC.

you surely mean 1-1.5 million. Nobody knows who either of these guys are, outside the 100-150k or so who have watched them on Sky. Get them built up and known to the audience and figures will pick up, but if Clev - Bellew II was put on ITV in March, it would do no more than 5 million at the very most.

I'd blame the BBC for that. Where has the evening coverage of this weeks UK Champs been? Daytime coverage is all well and good, but when students, OAPs and the unemployed become your target market, you are doomed to obscurity.

And you are not exactly getting Bowe - Holyfield or Benn - Eubank for your money either.

To be fair NFL fans get 5 games a week on TV including 1 on Free to Air TV and 2 games on back to back on Sky. True if they want to watch all the games they get rinsed but the average fan (such as myself) is happy to watch the normal stuff as opposed to paying a small fortune for the online thing.

Boxing fans to watch ALL fights on TV need-
Sky
ESPN
Premier Sports
Eurosports
FW Channel

Adds up to around £700 a year I think...and thats with out any Primetime PPV
