CAN LAMONT PERTERSON SPRING AN UPSET THIS SATURDAY?

Any thoughts fellow postologists? Peterson's a good contender, decent opponent, seems vulnerable early but a bit dangerous late on when he lets them fly. When Ortiz let him off the hook he made quite a fight of it.

My feeling is that Khan will take him out inside six before Peterson gets chance to make it a brawl. Khan loves feeding on small guys without big power and should finish it off before it goes long and he ends up having to take some on that unreliable chin.

Rematches with Breidis Prescott and Marcos Maidana have been off the Khan agenda for a long time, so what can we expect from him in 2012?

i havent saw peterson fight but i like his story and wouldnt be to upset if he won the fight.

I checked and you are right, Peterson is bigger than I thought - 5'9'' to Khan's 5'10'' and 74 reach to Khan's 71 - so a much better match up framewise than I realised. He just looks a little fragile to me.

Not sure Khan is getting 'better and better' - his opposition bar Maidana has been very weak; McCloskey, an old Judah, Malignaggi and the worst boxer of all time, Salita. That's pretty bad.

Can anyone name me an era where Amir Khan could have held a recognised world title at light welter for two and a half years, other than this one??

to answer your Era Question - no probably not
these days you can manaouver about and pick and choose that much you can hold a title for a good while.

I think rematches with Maidana or Prescott, or fights with Alexander or Matthysse would be more palatable to most boxing fans than McCloskey et al. Peterson is probably Khan's best opponent, other than Maidana, and that says a lot.

Khan claims to be the best in the 140lbs divsion and yet he hasn't faced Alexander or Bradley ?? So how can you claim to be the best in that division ?? I would like to see Khan face Maidana again, because it was sheer luck and Maidana's lack of finishing in that 10th round that saw Khan win that fight and i think he will always struggle against heavy punchers. The Bradley fight is a must, because it is just unfinished business and the Alexander fight because he has been at the top of that 140lbs division for some time now. I think Khan would always be susceptible to Maidana, but i think he would beat Bradley or Alexander, but he needs to fight them !! I agree with the quality of Khan's recent opponents. Malignaggi and Judah were two big names well past their sell by date and Salita, Kotelnik etc were very very average opponents. His best win is against Maidana, but as i say, he was very lucky to not get knocked out and i'm not convinced he would win a re-match, but having said that, he was rather gung-ho with his tactics and in a re-match he may resort to his normal in-out style. I don't think there are many people who would beat Khan outside of Pacqauio and Mayweather, but he has to prove this by fighting the names mentioned above. My schedule for Khan would be Maidana re-match, Alexander, then Bradey, move up to 147lbs, fight Ortiz, then Berto. After the Berto fight he can look at Mayweather which would be in around 18 months time. My opinion on Khan is that he will beat most fighters outside of Mayweather and Pacquaio, but will always be susceptible to hard punchers. I think he is the best at 140lbs, but he has to prove that by fighting everyone in that division who is considered dangerous.

Fight Maidana, Alexander, Bradley, Ortiz, Berto and you can claim to be a great fighter................if you win DD

Khan was already signed on to fight McCloskey when Alexander lost to Bradley, he was then supposed to be fighting Bradley next. Alexander was already signed on to fight Mattysse when McCloskey and Khan fought, then Khan fought Judah a month after Alexander-Mattysse. Aren't Alexander and Maidana going up to fight each other at WW anyway? It's easy to say he should do this he should do that, but it's not that simple is it? Bradley is the only fight that actually matters at LWW now and that doesn't seem like it's going to happen.

It's not that simple if you want to avoid each other, but if you really want to face an opponent and an opponent wants to face you, then yes, it is really easy to make a fight. Khan certainly needs to fight Bradley, but i would also say Alexander. Too many excuses are made for fighters at the top of a division not facing each other, when it is quite simple to achieve. You know asweel as i do that Bradley and Khan are protecting their reputations by not fighting each other, trying to line up the simplest route to a possible Pacquaio or Mayweather fight, hence Khan fighting washed up fighters with big names.

Bradley lost most of 2011 due to wrangling with management and promotional contracts, thus stating that Bradley 'backed out' of any fight this year needs an asterix. He did not want to box under his old promotional banner.

Would've loved Khan/Bradley this year, hey ho. The Boxing Gods really seem to love Amir.

I think this could be a pretty decent fight. I like Peterson, thought he did great to come back from the knockdowns vs Ortiz. But I think Khan's speed will be the difference.

On a side-note - Paulie Malignaggi is commentating for 5Live. Think I might turn the TV volume down and listen to it, will make a change from Watt!

upset is possible, peterson has been in with some decent company recently and his only loss is to the divisions no 1 bradley. khan has looked good in some of his recent fights, but hes hardly sugar ray leonard skill wise or marvin hagler chinwise. if there is a stoppage in this fight (which i think is unlikely) its liable to be khan that gets stopped, cos as far as im aware peterson has never been kod.

I think he can because he knows what he is up against. I think Khan is looking past this fight and that is dangerous. I admit Khan winning is the most likely result but I still see the possibility of Peterson catching Khan late on. Khans best chance is an early finish.

Ref was a tw*t , everytime peterson rushed in head down and then kahn got warnings etc and in the end 2 points deducted for pushing him away , ref is a joke , ok kahn was warned the points will go if he continued but i really didnt see it as kahn deliberately fouling .

the ref was shambolic , he had no control of the fighters who were hitting as soon as he told them to break and peterson cming in head first but then penalising kahn for pushing him down etc .
the judges scored it right but with no points deducted kahn should have won and also the fight may not have even gone the distance with a descent ref not hassling kahn constantly , kahn has every right to feel agreived

I loved Peterson's in-ring attitude; a mini Frazier. Well done to him. Khan's still young, but I think this leaves him with nowhere to go in the immediate. A rematch might take a lot out of him, and he's not up to the big names for now.
